As much as we all love to traipse about in our capes, masks, and sexy spandex, sometimes life happens. For the better, for the worse, and everything in between, events will occur outside the little niche that is our superhero escapist writing fantasy that pulls us kicking and screaming back into the dreaded real world.
And that's okay! My general rule of thumb is that real life should always come first. Updating that thread or finishing that arc will never be as important as keeping your grades up, making sure your wedding is running smoothly, your job remains secure, or your lights stay on. Vacations happen, power outages happen, everything from the expected to the holy-crap-why-is-this-happening unexpected...it's all just a part of life. We totally get it. We've all been there.
If you know you're going to be unable to post for longer than one (1) week, please let us know by posting below. You don't have to go into detail if it's too personal (a simple 'sh*t's gotten too real, I need to unplug for a while' will suffice), but at least let us know that you're either going to be gone completely for a while (and approximately how long) or just having your posting activity slow down a bit due to circumstances. If you are in currently active threads, specifically with more than just one other person, be sure to note how the other players should handle your absence in the meantime. Regardless of whether an absentee notice was posted here or not, the common courtesy to 'wait' on another player to post in a group thread should be approximately (10) days before moving along to the next player in the post order, though this can be shortened or extended on a case by case basis. Be sure to discuss with the other players involved in that thread before skipping someone.
Posting an absence note here will give you more leeway if you are MIA when the next activity check rolls around (though we do prefer you to sign it if you can). However, if you miss two (2) activity checks back to back, your characters will be put back up on the shelf and will need to be reapplied for, if they are still available upon your return.
And please, if you need to talk, vent, or otherwise just want to shout out into the void, there are several people here in our little community that would be more than happy to lend an ear. I'm no psychologist, but I'm a pretty nice shoulder to lean on. Drop me a line via private message - my inbox is always open.
