DEADPOOL
Real Name: Wade Winston Wilson
Alias: Deadpool
Identity: Ehhh...he wears a mask, but generally people know who he is, so more public than anything
Age: Appears to be early 30s, though he would say 29+ to be cheeky
Species: Human Mutate in his universe/Neo-Human on New Earth
Physical Appearance: Deadpool is a tall and lean-muscled antihero clad entirely in red (the blood of angry men!) and black (the dark of ages past!), with his face always hidden behind his iconic mask. Deadpool's masked visage is also emblazoned on his belt buckle, but totally not for any vain purposes, oh no. He has several pouches on his belt for carrying bullets, grenades, snacks, important paperwork, knives, and other instruments of fun and murder. Wade normally wears at least two guns on his hips, and carries two katanas on his back, even though he’s not at all Japanese. Katanas are just cooler, in his opinion.
However, under the cool costume and fun weaponry, Wade’s entire body is riddled head to toe with scar tissue, a combination of his constantly regenerating cancer and horrifying souvenirs from his stay within Weapon Plus’s hospice program. He is…very hard to look at, and he knows it, the disfigurement leaving him hairless and coated in nasty looking healed over sores, so he opts to keep his mask on as much as possible in public, only removing it up to his nose when necessary. His eyes are a deep, dark blue when people actually get a chance to see them, which isn't very often. It's important to note that Wade doesn't necessarily look like a monster (though he would tend to disagree), and is, at the end of the day, still human.
Personality: Described by most as an annoying, fast-talking, wise-cracking, gun-toting, slice-n-dicin’ maniac, Deadpool fully embraces this wonderfully generous description, and has made sure to edit his Wikipedia page to make sure the world knows what exactly to expect from the Merc with the Mouth. Wade seems to love the sound of his own voice, and doesn’t have much of a filter, spouting out whatever odd, non-sequitorous thought that pops into his head. He comes off to others as a trigger-happy buffoon, though he uses this façade to hide a darker side of his personality. Deadpool is the Pagliacci of the superhero community, the tragic clown who makes light of the darkness while also being consumed by it. His mental and physical disabilities and brash, overzealous attitude alienates him from other people, especially his peers among supers and mutants. Wade never really belongs anywhere, and ultimately wants someone to care for that cares for him in return. But this probably won’t happen, so he just generally laughs everything off and takes everything as a big joke. But let’s face it: if you’re not laughing, you’re crying, right? Better to just laugh.
Outside of the costume and unmasked, Deadpool isn't exactly all that different than he is while in uniform, though he may come off as a bit more subdued, and more sarcastic in his humor than he is “quippy”. He hates the look of his own face, and is incredibly self-conscious when others see him as “Wade” as opposed to “Deadpool,” spinning off into a whirl of anxiety when unwillingly unmasked. Wade is not looking for pity, but that's all he feels anyone ever thinks of him if they see him for what he truly is. Along with his general anxiety, Deadpool suffers a plethora of mental problems, including depression, PTSD, and bipolar disorder, though he generally uses his rather macabre sense of humor to keep others at arm's length of his own inner turmoil.
Powers:
Regenerative Healing Factor: Deadpool left Weapon Plus with an enhanced healing factor, arguably more effective than the mutant Wolverine’s natural healing, allowing him to recover from injuries in mere moments, and even return from near death. Limbs can be reattached or grow back, and most cuts and scrapes will knit themselves back together in an instant. His superjuiced healing grants him heightened resistance to disease and poison, though he can be drugged and tranquilized if given a high enough dose.
Abilities:
Close Combat/Firearm Proficiency: Deadpool is highly trained and highly dangerous in swordplay, firearms, and martial arts, and is often hired for assassinations, espionage, and covert operations.
Medium Awareness: Wade’s messed up brain allows him to see beyond the reality he and his fellow superheroes live in, often making meta remarks that nobody really understands. After all, they don’t know they’re all simply characters in an online forum RPG, all their actions being controlled by beings hanging out together on the internet.
Multilingual: Wade is fluent in Spanish, Japanese, German, and Russian.
Weapons/Equipment: Deadpool is generally armed to the teeth, and normally has a deadly something or other on his person at all times when he needs it. His main weapons are his twin katanas (currently called Chiffonade and Julienne, though these names often change every hour, on the hour), and he uses an assortment of firearms, knives, and explosives if the need arises. And the need always arises.
History: Wade Wilson was a young Canadian gun-for-hire who was diagnosed with Stage IV terminal cancer. Rather than allow himself to wither away slowly, Wade stopped his chemo treatments, broke up with his then-girlfriend, Vanessa, and volunteered himself for the Canadian Weapon Plus Project. The way he saw it, he was going to die anyway, so he might as well allow science to try to save him and make him into the Canadian Captain America. Unfortunately, the changes made to his body structure, using samples of previous Weapon X subject, Wolverine, did not take successfully, and Wade was considered a failed experiment. He was flushed out of the program, and sent to their hospice, where he was subjected to more body-rendering, mind-breaking experiments in secret, and ultimately went completely and utterly insane. Wade died during these trials, just as his healing factor finally kicked in, and Deadpool was born.
Since then, Deadpool has gotten back into mercenary work, his moral compass constantly spinning depending on the job at hand or the person he is trying to impress, though money tends to speak louder than ethics at times. He has gone on more missions, adventures, and mishaps than he can count with nearly every hero and villain of his original home universe, including the X-Men, several Avengers, Daredevil, Cable, Wolverine, and Spider-Man. Each of these escapades usually ended with Wade causing more trouble than he prevented, but each time, he pushed harder and harder to be considered a hero worthy of fighting alongside these great legends.
Eventually, Deadpool ended up on a "charity case," as he called them, to track down and stop a dangerous practitioner of the darker magical arts who was playing around with the fabrics of realities. Wade shot, stabbed, and grenaded his way through troves of monstrous minions, snarking and making "your princess is in another castle" comments the entire way, until he finally came across the big bad, as well as the truth. The sorcerer responsible for this whole mess was the one who ended up hiring him in the first place, as Deadpool was a key component in opening the gates to the Nexus of All Reality. One typical villainous boast and heroic refusal to cooperate later, and the battle commenced, only for the portal to tear wide open as soon as Wade's blood was spilled upon a magic circle carved into the floor of the stronghold. The Nexus tore asunder, sucking everything in the near vicinity into its gaping maw, with Wade along for the ride.
When he came to, Deadpool was in a world that seemed like the one he just came from, but there was something different, something off, something wrong. Probably due to him ending up midair at the height of the Empire State Building, and coming back down to earth...alarmingly fast.
Weaknesses:
Mostly Human (Kinda): Deadpool is unable to die for good, though the typical means of killing someone (decapitation, headshots, drowning) are an effective method to remove him from a situation, and it takes his body a lot longer to recover from these sorts of injuries. Because of this, Wade may be difficult to kill, but he's easily incapacitated and easily captured.
Terminal Cancer: His healing factor is directly bonded with his cancer, so if one is removed, the other will go haywire and ultimately kill him.
Hey, That Hurt!: All of Deadpool's pain receptors are still intact, so even though he heals quickly, every strike and injury hurts as badly as one would expect.
Dead Man Walking: Wade suffers from chronic pain, particularly in his skin. He's used to it by now, so he generally ignores it, and mostly notices if said pain has been removed. Every so often, usually every six months or so, the battle between his cancer killing him and his healing factor saying "not today" becomes so overwhelmingly painful that he is barely able to function, let alone get out of bed.
Easily Manipulated: For all of his bravado, Deadpool is very mentally fragile and the thought of being completely left alone and forgotten is his greatest and most crippling fear. He tries to pretend not to care for those closer to him, but he ultimately loves way too hard and deeply to just leave well enough alone, leaving him emotionally vulnerable and easy to manipulate. Just because his body can heal from any wound doesn't mean his heart and mind have the same ability.
Other Information:
In his own world, whenever Deadpool “dies,” he is able to temporarily enter Mistress Death's domain and interact with her, though he never stays for very long. Whether this is really happening or just another figment of Wade's shattered psyche is up to interpretation. Something similar may occur on New Earth.
It's often said that Deadpool has an odd scent about him that makes him not only distinctive, but also uncomfortable to be around. This is directly connected to his cancer and failing immune system – those with super senses (Daredevil, Wolverine) would be able to smell the sickness on him, something akin to excessive sweat, abandoned hospital wing, and a hint of antiseptic.
