Tony sighed as he exited the limo. Even back in his world, this was the part he hated. Being rich was great, but the press junkets, the meetings with high powered individuals, and the schmoozing of government officials all got so terribly droll. After all, they wanted what he had to sell, he knew they wanted it, and yet they still made him do the dance. It was irksome to say the least, but now on New Earth it was more necessary than usual. Sure he was Tony Stark and he built the first iteration of the armor in a cave with a box of scraps, but he couldn't maintain, repair, or otherwise innovate his armor with a handful of nothing. which was exactly what he had at the moment. From this moment on though, he aimed to change that.
Walking inside the building, cameras flashing, he smiled and waved. The press at least was on his side, footage of his combating Fin Fang Foom had been making the rounds for days now. Once his rather thorough interrogation at the hands of the Hellhound's superiors had ended he had been forced to repeat the process with several committees, the Joint Chiefs, and the President himself. When news finally broke that he was not a neo-human at all but man wearing a piece of tech, their apprehensiveness seemed to ease up a bit. And so when he was offered a position as an adviser to the U.S. government he accepted without hesitation. Not only did he need a means of surviving, he also needed to be where he could do the most good. Having seen what fear of those with power could bring about, he knew he had to be in on the ground floor in order to prevent the worst from happening.
Still, advisory position salary aside, he couldn't be both Tony Stark and Iron Man without capital and a lot of it. Sure the military had offered up all manner of perks should he share the Iron Man tech with them, but he was not about to do that on this or any other world. which meant he had to make cash and fast, something that between his genius and the goodwill the Fin Fang Foom incident had garnered him, he figured would be easy.
Standing before a bunch of big wigs from the industrial sector and military complex, he smiled his famous smile and began his presentation.
"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming out to hear me. I have to admit, usually it is other people waiting on me. Back home I am a billionaire, so the uh crowds? They usually show wherever I go. People are at my beck and call, not the other way around, so I admit this is not my, uh, usual fanfare filled introduction. But here goes..."
Looking at the various flash cards he had laid out he sighed, removed his sunglasses, and tossed the notes.
"Alrighty, screw that. Look, what you have heard? Probably most of it is right. Yes, I am not from around here, I am an outsider in the biggest sense, but at the same time this is where I live. No I don't mean this New Earth I find myself on, I mean here. Industry. Get down to it and I am a mechanic, an engineer. I build things, I fix things, I innovate. I did this back home and I want to do it here. With your help."
A 4-star general rose and asked, "So are you going to be making weapons? Giving us, the uh, what is it called? The Iron Man is it?"
"Yes, it is the Iron Man and no it is not for sale," Tony replied.
"Then what are we doing here?" another military official asked.
"I just covered that. Innovating. Solving problems. Literally like I said it two seconds ago."
Taken aback by his demeanor gasps and murmurs started around the room, causing Tony to pinch the spot between his eyes.
"Okay, look. I'm gonna lay it out for you guys. As of today I have zero money, but I have ideas, tech, and more that this earth does not have but desperately needs. No they are not weapons, you have enough of those already. So as of today I am announcing the formation of a company. Stark Solutions. And trust me when I say you want in on this, because I always get what I want. If you don't stand with me now, you can look up from underneath the rubble later. Because I will take partners in this venture to new heights, make boatloads of money, and those who didn't want in or stood in my way? You'll be yesterday's news in no time," Tony announced.
"Mr. Stark is that a threat?" a tech CEO asked.
"Uh, no. It's a promise. Next question?"
