"RAZ" AKA G1-18126
Real Name: [REDACTED]
Alias: Hellhound
Identity: [CLASSIFIED]
Age: 29
Species: Human (enhanced)
Physical Appearance: Raz is tall, standing 6'3", and weighs 347lbs.
She has pretty average looks -- a sharp, angular face, severe almost; she tends to have a very intense alert gaze that makes people think she's glaring. She has black hair that's cut short, but longer than a boy cut. Her bangs often get in her eyes if she doesn't keep it trimmed. Her eyes are a vibrant cat-green color. Her irises are also a larger than normal. When in low-light, or in the right angle, her pupils reflect light like a cats.
This is due to the scientists that coded the DNA including genes for cat's eyes when making the Generation 1 super soldiers. The idea was to provide soldiers with natural night-vision while still maintaining a human appearance. The pupils are round, not slitted. The color and iris size is the most obvious giveaway that she is not a normal human. When out in public, Raz wears sunglasses or color contacts to stay incognito.
Other than being very tall, Raz is incredibly fit. Due to her genetic engineering -- and physical training focused on producing physical strength not physical mass -- Raz has an overall lean, but incredibly dense, muscular build. One glance at her makes most people think she's a professional athlete of some kind.
Raz also has several scars, thanks to her life. Most are simply small white marks that have healed over very well. There's one on her face, a thin white slice just under her left eye and slanting down toward the bottom of her ear.
She also has a tattoo on the back of her left shoulder, about 5 inches long. Image here. She also has her serial number 18126 tattooed on the back of her neck, just underneath her hairline.
Personality:
Raz is a pretty laid back gal. She's polite. Amiable. Will strike up an easy conversation and just shoot the breeze with anyone if they approach her. Her conversations aren't very deep. She keeps it light and very casual. There's a streak of sarcasm and dry humor always present in her attitude, usually coming out in quips and wry, ironic asides.
When not approached by someone, however, Raz is quiet. She is calm. Incredibly observant and watching absolutely everything.
Raz has no time for Bullsh*t. She speaks plainly and to the point and doesn't spare her opinion if the air needs to be cleared. She knows her sh*t, does her sh*t, gets it done fast and tight, but knows when it's important to lead and when to follow.
If others are not doing their part or acting as a detriment to the safety of all, she rebukes them, tells them to stop being a dumbass and to carry their own weight. She doesn't coddle or suffer cowards, fools, and incompetents whatsoever. However, if someone is suffering, or going through a hard time, she doesn't push or chew them out. As with nearly all soldiers, she demonstrates an unspoken code of conduct and simply provides silent support. Talking doesn't come easy, especially about the things she's seen and done and she respects that's true for others as well. She's the last to judge anyone for what they've endured and merely respects it, makes no comment unless asked, and moves on. She is not the type of person you go to for therapy. She just lets you know she's there, by your side. Always ready.
Raz has a 'big sister' streak in that regard as well. She takes care of her own, and will not call it a night until she knows that everyone under her watch is safe and secure. Due to her upbringing, she has very deeply rooted ideals about watching each other's back, always being there for one another, on or off the field, and above all, listening to those around you. And, just like a big sister, she will tease, snark, embarrass and take the piss out of you at every opportunity. She doesn't pick on anyone, just keeps the banter high. Lots of support when you need it, lots of guff even if you didn't ask for it.
She strives to be the best soldier and officer she possibly can be, and you cannot do that by being a bastard know-it-all. She will take criticism but only if she knows it is deserved. She isn't proud, quick to apologize for her screw-ups and even quicker to move on. To her, done is done. Can't change what happened, only learn from it. However, dare to insult her and she will put you on your ass with precise application of violence. Insult the military, herself, or try and start general sh*t around her, and she will draw herself up to her considerable height, look down at you with barely leashed violence in her eyes and invite you to say it again.
Raz also has a bloodlust unlike any other. When she gets into combat, the calm, collected soldier that exudes confidence in her capability takes on a very dangerous edge. She's brutal and ruthless, often preferring to go in with overkill. She doesn't welcome danger with open arms -- she seeks it out and makes it sorry for pissing her off. She likes to go over and above what's necessary, otherwise she gets bored. She also doesn't stop. Raz will take the objective. Then the next one. And the next one. And-- oh, were they supposed to stop fighting? She is an adrenaline junkie and loves the thrill of a combat challenge. This also makes her extremely competitive. If presented with a challenge, she doesn't stop until not only has she mastered it, but she dominates. (Needless to say, she's been banned from Call of Duty for life.) This side of Raz is dangerous, a precision machine of complete, nonstop violence fueled by sheer force of will and bloodlust that razes cities to the ground when she is done. It's how she got her nickname, after all. Raze. Raz.
Be careful of tripping over her protective side. This will not happen often because Raz is very, very slow to completely trust in anyone. But if, over time and care, someone becomes very dear to her, she will protect them. Slap said person in the face in front of her and she will break twenty bones in seven seconds and have a knife to your eye.
She has a great deal of rage as well. (See FLAWS.) At times this can completely wipe out her better judgement. There is nothing but the desire to rip something in half. She has no finessed control over her decisions at this point. She goes on a roaring rampage of annihilation that cannot be reasoned with. Needless to say, this isn't a good thing.
Powers:
- Genetic Engineering Experiment: Basically, Raz has the best genes humanity has to offer... and then some. The results are as follows:
- Night Vision: Thanks to the government's tinkering with her DNA, Raz has the ability to see at night as if it were still twilight. These genes, borrowed from felines, didn't work out as well as hoped. It also had the side-effect of slightly altering the appearance of her eyes. (See PHYSICAL APPEARANCE.)
- Superior Strength and Training: Thanks to her engineered genes, Raz's muscle fiber is four times as dense as that of a normal human being (another cross-species trait picked up from chimpanzees). Add a rigorous exercise routine, and Raz is effectively four times stronger than a human Olympian. She can bench-press 2,000lbs. Her bones are also 8x stronger than a normal human, a naturally-occurring but rare trait that was put into every super soldier in order to accommodate the increased strain from the enhanced strength. Her bones are so hard, they can't even put bone-screws in. This added density is what makes her heavier than normal (347lbs). What this all means is that Raz has a very lean, muscular figure, and is often mistaken as a champion power lifter. (Muscle mass is low, but muscle definition and physical strength is high.) But her her muscle density is so high, you could hurt your finger poking her. It's like rock.
- Superior Reflexes: Also a by-product of her genes and training, Raz has incredibly good reflexes.
- Accelerated Healing: Again, because of her engineering, Raz heals faster than normal. She can't start healing a stomach wound immediately or be on a broken leg within a week but you can reliably cut down the average convalescence time by about a third. She also has a very high pain tolerance.
Abilities:
- Super-Soldier Training: Raz was being trained conditioned for extreme combat efficiency since birth. No joke. This includes:
- Master Marksman and Firearm Mastery: Raz has been training with guns since before she could talk very well. The actions of breathing, aiming, leading the target -- by now, they have become second nature to her. Her sniper rifle is one of her best friends, but she often doesn't have the patience to use it all the time. If it shoots something at velocity, Raz knows how to use it excellently, dangerously, and like its an extension of her body.
- Hand-To-Hand Combat Mastery: To whit, Raz has completely mastered Aikido, Wing Chun, Jujitsu, Savate, Kali, Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Sambo, Judo, Boxing, Kickboxing and MCMAP.
- Sword Mastery: As with the other two, Raz has been training with a sword co-currently with other physical disciplines. She makes it look very easy, when it really isn't, purely because she's been doing it so long. She is among the best in the known world, as are the other super soldiers.
- Simple Weapon Mastery: Raz is proficient in simple weapons. Training in these were precursor to the advanced weaponry. This includes, but is not limited to, knives, staff, batons/tonfa, and chain. She's also quite good in throwing knives.
- Tracking: Raz is quite accomplished when it comes to tracking and hunting. She can track people as well as animals. It doesn't matter if the environment is urban or rural; she's trained in both.
- Survival Skills: She's been trained in how to survive in even the harshest environments with little to no equipment. She doesn't enjoy it, but she can do it.
- Emergency Medical Training: Raz is no surgeon, but she knows how to patch up wounds and keep you breathing. She has some decent medical knowledge, mostly centered on how to identify and treat severe trauma, including car crashes, stabbings, shootings, broken bones, and other combat-related wounds.
- Practical Engineering: In essence, Raz knows how to strip down a gun and put it together in 57 seconds. She also can repair her equipment and most things that have an engine in it. She is capable of welding, hot-wiring, and jury-rigging things on the fly if need be.
- Trap Making: Raz is also very proficient in making traps, how to set them up, where to angle them for the greatest amount of damage and even making bombs. She can turn a house into a living deathtrap given enough time and household chemicals in the proper proportions.
- Master Tactician: Raz is more than just a grunt. She is incredibly well-educated in all tactics, stratagems and war philosophy. She can wage a war with just as much ruthless and intelligent efficiency as she is at charging the front lines. She's a student of history and has learned from the best. She can establish a vicious defense, brutal offense, and is a master player of Go and chess.
Weapons/Equipment:
- Titan III Power Armor: This is Raz's most important piece of equipment -- a full-body, high tech suit of combat body armor, made from titanium alloy mixed with something else that's top secret. It entirely encapsulates the body (think Halo) and is air and water tight, providing the wearer complete protection from the environment and other things trying to kill you. The armor is lined with a gelatinous blue layer, colloquially called 'squishskin'. This squishskin makes the armor much more comfortable to wear, basically conforming to the wearer like a form-fit glove. It also regulates temperature and can provide protection from G-forces. This armor was designed to be deployable from the air. (Like a dropship.) But this isn't recommended as regular use, since it takes a toll on the armor, necessitating major repairs.
The servo actuators enhance the wearer's strength by a factor of 20. (If you can throw 20lbs, this will enable you to throw 400lbs in the armor.) This applies to the legs as well, meaning one running stride will allow the wearer to cover 25 feet. This also allows the wearer to jump incredibly high, at least up to 4 stories without any additional weight.
Inside, it has it's own fusion battery power supply, water and nutrient paste, and a 2 hour supply of oxygen. The helmet has a high powered comms built in, as well as a vision and targeting-enhancing HUD. This HUD can also switch to nightvision, infrared, and protect the wearer from bright flashes (such as flashbangs.) It can provide a marked path on the digital helmet display when asked directions. The onboard computer is also capable of establishing coms, has internet access, and monitors the wearer's health. If the wearer is injured, stimulants and tourniquets can be applied by the on-board medical system. The armor is shielded from EMP and radiation (standard in all military equipment) and also grounded against electrical attacks -- due to the fusion battery, you really don't want that containment getting screwed.
- The alloy it's made from is incredibly strong, and in the DC world, is known as Promethium. (AKA, a blend of titanium, diamond carbide and depleted uranium.) able to resist a .50 caliber bullet and a HALO drop without the parachute. However it cannot take a punishment forever -- it requires CONSTANT maintenance. The servos and joints often take the worst damage and the armor plating also needs to be replaced after soaking so many rounds.
- High-Carbon Sword: Raz's trusty blade, "Thirst" is made from a similar alloy as her power armor, with added carbon density. That's all the scientists would say.
This edge has also been honed on a molecular level, meaning it can cut through tank armor. This sword is, in fact, one of the few things that can slice through her armor like it isn't there. - .50 Caliber M82A1M Barret Rifle: Sometimes called the Barret 'Light' Fifty, this is one of the best anti-material sniper rifles ever made. Often used for taking out tanks and other combat vehicles. Signature of Raz's tendency to give new appreciation for the term 'overkill.'
- XM25 CDTE "Punisher" Grenade Launcher: The XM25 CDTE fires 25 mm grenades that are set to explode in mid-air at or near the target. A laser rangefinder in the weapon is used to determine the distance to the target. The user can manually adjust the detonating distance by up to 10 feet (3.0 m) shorter or longer; the XM25 automatically transmits the detonating distance to the grenade in the firing chamber. The grenade tracks the distance it has traveled by the number of spiral rotations after it is fired, then detonates at the proper distance to produce an air burst effect. This makes the XM25 especially good at hitting targets that are behind cover or dug in, and is very effective as an anti-personnel weapon.
Video (if you're curious) - NEMO Arms OMEN AR: This assault rifle is made of solid titanium and loads 300 WinMag, with 14 rounds per mag (15, including the chamber). This basically is a sniper round in an assault rifle and it is delicious. (Note: When not facing 'big game' Raz will employ a 5.56 AR-15. This is a smaller round but still the standard of the army. Typically 30 rounds to a mag.)
- Benelli M3 Shotgun: Capable of handling either a shoulder stock or pistol grip, this is a dual mode shotgun -- either semi-automatic or pump-action -- allowing for a variety of shells to be used and for emergency loading on the fly. 6 shells can be attached to the top of the shotgun for quick access. 12 gauge. 8 round.
History: Raz is the product of a government project code-named [REDACTED].
This project was designed to produce an entire generation genetically engineered super soldiers. These soldiers would be strong, fast, smart and were raised to be the deadliest, most efficient killing machines the world had seen. Much of the data that went into making these soldiers was acquired in previous experiments that produced solitary prototypes alone. These prototypes originally were just one-shot deals, often relying on altering a pre-existing soldier 'volunteer'. Sometimes, metahumans were used. Either way, a great deal of agony and brainwashing was involved to ensure absolute control over these soldiers.
Each and every one went bad and racked up a bodycount while they were at it.
Eventually, the military had to abandon the idea of making a super soldier 'in pill form.' They were going to have to take the long route. So they began to genetically code the most ideal specifications for a super soldier. This included greatly enhanced strength and bone density. Height and visual enhancements were also made. All genetic weaknesses and defects were weeded out religiously, borrowing from the great map of the human genome to accomplish all of this. Intelligence and even genetic markers for emotonal control, loyalty and aggression were VERY carefully emphasized in the genetic code. The idea being that if they made the soldiers psychologically predisposed to handle great deals of stress with no downside, they'd produce a soldier that could endure the rigors of combat with little to no ill mental effect. The mind was engineered as much as the body.
The inclusion superpowers was ruled out, since they were a variable that could not be controlled and was so poorly understood.
All the soldiers were born within 3 months of each other. By the age of 5, they were completely separated from their mothers and were wholly dependent on their officers, teachers, trainers and each other. They grew up seeing everyone around them as family and specifically brothers and sisters. The program conditioned them to be able to rely on each other without question. They grew up knowing everything -- they were never lied to -- and they understood they were part of a greater cause, a bigger purpose. Every super solider is instilled with an unwavering conviction that they are part of a greater movement to protect freedom, protect innocents, and do whatever is necessary to keep people safe. Their mentality is that of unwavering loyalty and trust to the military and to one another. They are soldiers, they are the first response and the last defense.
They were also raised with the awareness that they were meant to protect the people. As in 'We the People.' The program's overseer, General Rowley, was selected at a younger age (and lower rank) to monitor the soldiers as they grew. He literally is their father figure and they respect him greatly. General Rowley even has special powers written into law that he has the right to refuse or contradict any order given to him that he judges is unconstitutional and does not serve the greater purpose of the super soldier program as intended. He's stopped MANY a corrupt senator from abusing the soldiers and they all know it.
Further, their education did not simply stop at physical training. They were also educated to become the finest tacticians and studied all manner of ancient philosophies and modern strategy. Every super soldier can lead a war AND fight in it -- from a war theater to fireteam tactics. Raz's favorite book is the Book of Five Rings. They also studied the philosophies of good and evil -- so not only were they prepared to fight the best as they could be, they were also given deep and thoughtful education on why they should fight. This has only cemented their moral conviction in their duty and purpose even more.
Due to this system of emotional investment, support, and protection from corruption, the super soldiers have been a massive success. They've pushed back threats that entire armies could not keep back for decades. Once the soldiers were out in the active duty for a few years, they were stationed in areas across the country, quietly, secretly during their R&R period. They spend every other R&R period away from their 'home base' purely to see and experience what it is that they are protecting. 'Connect to what you protect.' Some soldiers have even had romantic flings and these are tolerated, but closely monitored.
Raz is not one of those soldiers. She belongs to the top 1% of her generation. She didn't just perform well -- she excelled. Unfortunately, this often means her R&R is cut short when some crisis pops up requiring an elite unit to respond. She's not been home in a long time, and hasn't ever found a town or city she feels comfortable in to request as a constant 'vacation spot.'
Raz entered active duty at the age of 17 doing mostly scouting assignments and long-range cover. She advanced to full field duty within 6 months due to her excellent record. (In fact, most of her generation did as well.) Since then, she has been on full active duty for 12 years. In those years she has carried out hundreds of missions, all of them classified. There is a particular mission in Russia she doesn't like talking about and one in Berlin that she refuses to discuss.
As with all soldiers, she's not without her scars.
Recently, the super soldier program was exposed to the eye of the public. Due to the dimensional 'vagrants' -- often metahumans with unbelievable powers -- the major populace nearly erupted into a full-blown state of panic. Whole cities were rioting. People were fleeing the country, fearful some super villain might drop on New York or Washington DC next. Civilization was close to breaking down. In a drastic measure to reassure everyone that there were safe and the threat could be fought off, the government announced that the soldiers in their top secret suits of armor were here to protect against this invasive threat. All the soldiers were pulled off the front lines in a few days and permanently stationed in major cities Stateside. Far as people know, these soldiers are merely normal humans that have undergone gene therapy with high tech armored suits. They are not aware of the full nature of the G1's.
Currently, Raz is stationed in New York City.
Weaknesses:
- Physical:
- Fast Metabolism: Raz has an amped-up metabolism; this was designed as an experiment to combat the effects of aging and thus extend the utility of the soldier. While it still remains to be seen if it's effective, the result is that Raz gets pretty hungry very quickly. She always has a snack on hand because she gets grumpy when she's hungry. Raz can reliably be counted on to consume about 5,000 calories a day (and still lose weight.)
- Only Human: Despite her accelerated healing, Raz is still just human and can be killed by normal means.
- Personality Flaws:
- Bloodlust: Some people fight because they have to. Some fight because they're getting paid. But Raz does it for the sheer thrill. Raz loves fighting, she loves the danger and above all, she loves the adrenaline rush. Raz is an adrenaline junkie and she NEVER backs down from a fight. She goes into a fight, laughing and ready to rock and roll. This isn't always a good thing.
- Overkill: When Raz really ought to stop killing something... she doesn't. She'll beat her target to a bloody pulp -- literally -- before stopping. She will use excessive violence to get the job done, simply because she enjoys it. This can result in collateral damage most of the time, and keep her blind to an additional threat while she's focused on stomping brains all over the floor.
- Psychotic Rage Episodes: Raz is, by and large, a very calm person. She takes everything in a stride, mostly because having a plan to kill everyone in the room gives a person great confidence. But there are times, when pushed the wrong way, Raz simply snaps.
When this happens, Raz is all training without the control. She wreaks violence in the most efficient, brutal manner possible. This only occurs when something truly makes her angry. Unlike most people, Raz does not have a 'scale' when it comes to anger. She starts out mad and then upgrades to violence with no steps in between. She quite literally goes berserk. You'll know she's mad when she stops smirking and making good-natured jokes.- Brawler: Raz has a lot of neat guns and state-of-the-art weaponry. However, she often neglects these in favor of her sword. She loves getting in close and personal and winning the battle with her hands. She will put herself at a disadvantage and use just her sword and fists to take down a threat. She actually prefers this because it makes the fight last longer, which is more of a challenge for her and also more fun.
- All Work, No Play: Raz is, though she'll never admit it to herself, very lonely. She is human and she craves deep human connection. However, due to her upbringing she's had no time or opportunity to pursue any kind of intimate relationship. The closest she knows is that of family. Therefore, her sexuality is pretty underdeveloped, but by no means gone. She just wrote it off as 'something I'll get around to later. When I'm not busy.' But she's always busy.
Another part of the issue is that she would only feel comfortable with someone she can trust completely, with everything; having led a completely classified, secret life she's still not at liberty to fully discuss is something of a barricade to establishing a connection with anyone. In short, she has no way to break the ice or what to even do if she did. She has family, but few friends.
She's also gotten it into her head that no one would find her desirable. Firstly, no one is exactly advertising they want a tall woman of 300+ pounds, all muscle and can bench press a small car. Further, she's done things; things that, if anyone knew about, would hate her for. These rationalizations have kept her from actively pursuing any kind of intimate relationship, either emotional or physical. This isolation has resulted in her drifting deeper and deeper into an emotional numbness and repressive state. By all counts, she's as tough as her armor. Deep inside, though, she's starting to crack from being strong for too long.
- Hypervigilant: Raz does NOT have PTSD. Let me be very clear about that. That said, some things just come with the territory of being a super soldier. Raz operates on a level of stress few people can handle. She is always watching, scanning, monitoring. She's tracking everything, everyone, every detail. It's habit when things are trying to kill you for almost half your life. This means VERY little can sneak up on her. So if someone does come up on her unexpectedly or, god forbid, puts a hand on her while she's sleeping/dozing, do not be surprised when a weapon or some kind of violence is visited upon their body faster than you'd think possible.
- Not A Hero: Raz doesn't trust quickly or easily. She approaches everyone with caution and a willingness to use swift violence to protect herself and others. Attempting to plea for her pity or mercy doesn't work. She will be as ruthless as she has to. Children do not get a pass. If you cross the line, she will put you down, so long as it's not out of line with her duty.
- Fears: Raz doesn't actually have any obvious fears. Some people have the good sense to fear a dark and scary tunnel that has a trail of bodies leading into it. Raz isn't one of those people. Her complete confidence in being one deadly S.O.B. puts her in the mindset that there is very little she cannot handle. Deep down, there is only one thing that truly scares her:
- Being Forgotten: I know. You were probably expecting 'fear that I'm just a tool and not a person' right? Raz has done a lot of things. A lot. And the thing that keeps her up at night is that when she's gone, there will be no one to remember. That they won't know she liked the color orange and knew all the words to every AC/DC album. She fears disappearing, that she will become literally nothing. When, at the end of her life, there will be no one to mourn her and no one to care she even lived. Beware of pushing this button -- she doesn't react well.
Other Information:
- Military Supplies: Raz has access to any weaponry she needs for the occasion. She calls a contact and the supplies are ready for her within a day -- two days if it's something REALLY unusual. She cannot keep these on hand all the time since it's a 'borrow as you need' basis, but she can access them so long as she has knowledge of what's coming. The weapons I listed above are the ones she has all the time and can usually take care of most situations. She does have clearance for experimental weaponry.
- Security Clearance: Raz has access to government resources and files most don't even know about. She can access these as needed for information.
- The Old Guard: While a some of her generation has fallen, the ones that haven't are still kicking and dangerous as hell. If she really needs it, Raz can call them in for backup.
- Always Prepared: Raz is never without a variety of knives on her person at the very least, and she always carries a .45 Colt 1911, with backup magazines. And a multitool, with a compass included.
- She loves cats. She loves them, which is why she has 7. They are: Browning, Remington, Winchester, Smith and Wesson (twins), Ruger and Colt. (You should be detecting a theme here....) The soldiers are allowed pets as a means of destressing.
- She has a superb singing voice, possessing a deep and mellow alto. Raz's superb singing talent is not that unusual. More than 82% of the G1's all posses an eerily good knack for music; the scientists still don't know why, but the current theory is that it has something to do with the gene code they used for higher understanding of mathematics. While on long flights between deployments, she takes some online vocal training, as something to do.
- Blood type is AB+. All G1's share the same blood type for emergency transfusion on the field.
- Her first and foremost goal in life is to carry out her duty to the fullest. If she begins to get an inkling that there's something amiss in her orders, she will ask for clarification. Her duty is to protect from 'all threats, both foreign and domestic.' It's the 'domestic' part that's so tricky and she knows this all too well.
- She likes to keep trophies of her kills. Usually a gun or something from a mission.
- She does have a 'birth name' one that her surrogate mother gave her. She does not remember it.
- Raz is, for all intents and purposes, sterile. Her eggs were removed before being moved to active combat duty. This reproductive material is intended to create basis of the next generation of super soldiers. All the female soldiers underwent this procedure.
- There is absolutely no connection between the G1 program and Senate control. In fact, the G1 program was intentionally removed from government control. Technically, it is entirely civilian military based. Raz's supersoldier program was made knowing very well the power these soldiers would have and as such, a LOT of countermeasures were put into place to make sure that corruption could not make these soldiers tools of tyranny upon the very country they were made to protect.
