Inside the large building that served as both his home and shop, the old man hummed under his breath as he unpackaged and held up a old tome. Setting it to the side, he very carefully opened it up and turned a few pages. "Hmm..Seems to be still be in quite the good condition. Good, very good." Turning aside,he didn't notice the sickly green light that started wisping off of the suddenly rippling pages...
------------------
A black, featureless rod smashed through the head of a monster made of what seemed to be book pages and green, smoke like energy gathered into a vaguely humanoid form. Blocking the follow up strike via a set of large, surprisingly sturdy set of claws, Skotos was sent staggering back, his staff ruined by the blow. Slamming against the wall, the young hero let out a slightly pained groan. Yelping as the paper monster wound up for another strike, he darted to the side.Paling slightly underneath his mask as the claws made a crater right where his own head had been, Skotos dropped his bent staff and let it fade away as he formed a shorter rod, swinging it at the thing's leg. "Yah!!" As the side of the limb caved in underneath the quick blow, he backed up a few steps and gave it a wary look.
'It's so easy to rip into them, even though I can't seem to bring them down...The magic driving them must be demonic. Dang it, so much for checking out New Jersey...But at least I was close enough to help!' Though his ability to sense magic wasn't exactly strong enough to have felt the first pulse as the chaos started, the panicked screaming that'd soon followed had certainly gotten his attention. Speaking of screaming...As a few page golems cornered a couple of civilians that hadn't managed to get away, Skotos muttered under his breath, and formed a few tendrils from the shadow of a nearby car.Lashing out with his hand, he caused the tendrils to whip out, carving into the backs of the golems in a attempt to distract them."Leave them alo-agh!"
Taking advantage of his distraction, the golem that he'd been dealing with grabbed him up and slammed him against the wall. Holding him in place, it reared it's free hand back in preparation to finish the boy off. Skotos hastily blocked the blow, giving a grunt as the vibration from the impact tremored through it's way to his shoulder. Raising his free arm, he clenched his fist and swung it down at the arm holding him and attempted to break through the paper construct. 'Really could use some help...Got to get this thing off me and hold them back!'
