THE INCREDIBLE HULK
Real Name: Robert Bruce Banner
Alias: The Hulk, Bruce Banner
Identity: Bruce is public knowledge, The Hulk is known by the public, but the connection is not known.
Age: Late 30s to early 40s.
Species: Human whose DNA has been modified down to the molecular level, Vagrant.
Physical Appearance & Personality:
Due to the nature of Bruce and The Hulk, I have chosen to lump the two categories into one, as both changes depending on which version of The Hulk Banner transforms into.
Bruce Banner - Bruce Banner is the core personality, able to transform into various versions of The Hulk. Standing in at about 5'10" tall and weighs in at a measly 123 pounds. Banner is the stereotypical bookworm, quiet, reserved In possession of an incredibly complex mind, Banner is a complicated and emotionally damaged man. Due to the abuse that Banner suffered at the hands of his father, Bruce is a socially awkward and isolated man, preferring to focus all his attention on his work than his life. However, Bruce Banner is a self-sacrificing and incredibly heroic person. He's been shown as putting everything on hold to help his friends, even if it meant causing him mental, or physical harm. Banner has stated that Hulk's reasoning and intelligence tends to fluctuate depending upon several factors upon transformation.
Savage Hulk - Standing in at roughly eight feet tall, and weighing around 1,400 pounds, The Savage Hulk is the most commonly thought of version of the Hulk, complete with referring to himself in the third person. The truth is that the Savage Hulk is more along the lines of a child, as he possesses the same mental capacity and temperament of one. As each of the Hulk personas are actually reflections of Banner's personality, this version of The Hulk is the reflection of the young child abused by his father, which is why he has such an extreme rage and deep resentment of the world. Savage Hulk claims that he just wants to be left alone, but the truth is, he just wants to be liked, accepted, and viewed as a friend. The demand for loneliness comes from being unable to understand why he's attacked upon first sight. Savage Hulk is a deep green color, with a heavily muscular body. His gait is rather ape-like. THIS WILL BE THE STANDARD HULK THAT I USE. UNLESS SOMEONE REQUESTS GRAY.
Gray Hulk, also known as Joe Fixit - Standing at 6'6" tall, and weighing right around 900 pounds, the Gray Hulk is the shortest, and weakest, version of The Hulk. In his earlier years, this version of the Hulk was the first one that Banner would become, transforming as soon as the sun went down, and reverting back when the sun rose. The Gray Hulk had spent some time in Vegas as an enforcer, hence the name "Joe Fixit". Gray Hulk has average intelligence, but his is very cunning and crafty, at times showing a level of knowledge and intellectual ability that usually is associated with Banner. This Hulk has been compared to the moody and temperamental teenager that Banner never allowed himself to be. Because of this, Gray Hulk is hedonistic, arrogant, and distant with most everyone he meets. A small side note; the Gray Hulk prefers custom tailored suits.
The Green Scar - As overpowered as this version of The Hulk is, he still needs to be mentioned as he is one of the primary incarnations of The Hulk. Standing at 8'8" and tipping the scales at 2,400 pounds The Green Scar, also referred to as "Worldbreaker" is the single strongest version of the Hulk, due to the fact that Banner and The Hulk are working together to avenge the loss of their family. In this version of the Hulk, his rage is focused, his mind is set, and because the two halves are working together, his strength knows no bounds, his durability is unlimited and he has shown to be capable of breaking the eastern seaboard with only a few steps. An odd thing that happens with this transformation is that The Green Scar actually radiates Gamma energy, and is often seen glowing a bright green, not unlike the light seen coming from Green Lantern. This version of the Hulk has been trained in the use of weapons of war, swords, shields and spears. He's also an incredibly capable tactician and leader. The only reason this Hulk was ever stopped was because Banner allowed them to be defeated in battle, but it still took the combined efforts of almost every hero the world had to offer. THIS HULK IS THE STRONGEST THERE IS. AS SUCH, I CONSIDER HIM TOO POWERFUL TO BE USED UNLESS TOLD BY THE MODS/NEEDED FOR A SITE WIDE PLOT.
Powers:
Transformation: The Incredible Hulk is one of, and sometimes, the physically strongest beings in the Marvel universe, with the potential to truly be the "Strongest there is;" as it'll be reiterated below, the Hulk is limitless in his strength, stamina, durability, healing, and adaptive abilities. The process by which Banner transforms into The Hulk, is presumably, the result of the chemical adrenaline. Just like normal humans, Banner's body creates adrenaline in times of fear, rage, or stress, which hormonally stimulates the heart rate, increases blood-sugar levels, and inhibits sensations of fatigue. Whereas the secretion heights normal physical abilities, in Banner's case it triggers a complex chemical and physical transformation. The total time of transformation is variable, ranging anywhere from a few seconds, to several minutes, depending on the initial adrenaline surge, which would be determined by the original stimulus. Soon after the transformation, the amount of adrenaline in the Hulk will return to more normal level, but there have been instances where Banner transforms into The Hulk for almost no reason. As the Hulk's transformation is mostly a stress reaction, it is virtually impossible to attack, wound, or sedate Banner without the Hulk erupting almost instantaneously in self-defense.
- Limitless Superhuman Strength: The Hulk possesses the capacity for limitless physical strength. The Beyonder, a cosmic entity that calculated The Hulk's strength, outright stated that The Hulk's strength was intrinsically limitless; this was further supported by another entity called the Stranger, who was able to actually probe The Hulk's strength. The Mad Thinker, a man with a literal computer mind, also tried to calculate The Hulk's strength, and found that it was an impossible mathematical equation. It needs to be noted that each of The Hulk's personalities possess a base strength level. While in a "calm" state, the Gray Hulk is the weakest of the bunch, while the incarnation of The Hulk known as "The Green Scar" is the physically strongest of the group. After being exposed to the energies from the exploding core of the ship that originally brought The Hulk to Sakaar, The Green Scar's base strength level was drastically increased. As we all know, the angrier The Hulk gets, the stronger he gets, because of all the adrenaline flowing through his body, The Hulk's physical prowess rises. Because his strength is tied to his rage, his rage also knows no bounds. But, it's not just his rage, The Hulk is able to absorb radiation, using that to further his strength and abilities. Some of the more insane feats of strength that The Hulk has demonstrated have been as follows; he managed to support the weight of, and then lift up, a 150 billion ton mountain. The Hulk has destroyed the Space-Time Continuum with a single punch, overpowering and then destroying the physical form of Onslaught, which means that the Hulk had to reach Celestial levels of strength.
- Super Strength Utilization: The Hulk can slam his hands together to create tremendously powerful sonic vibrations, known as "Thunderclaps", that have been compared to the strongest hurricane in history. The thunderclap has been powerful enough to disperse Sandman's attacks, and were able to debilitate The Red Hulk. The Hulk can hit the ground with his hands or feet to create violent tremors that can thwart opponents and destroy structures. The Hulk is also able to inhale great quantities of air for several effects. An example of this is when he used this ability to knock down armed troops and even leveled forests. It's been shown that he has used this ability to stop the likes of Mister Fantastic.
- Superhuman Leaping: The Hulk is able to use his extremely developed leg muscles to leap great distances. As The hulk gets angrier, the stronger he gets, the further he is able to leap. The Hulk's leaps, when used for general mobility, has been shown to reach speeds of up to 473 miles per hour. On one occasion The Hulk was able to launch himself to MARS. The Hulk has shown amazing precision and accuracy with his leaps, being able to catch missiles midflight, and land on islands that were almost impossible to see from the height he was falling from.
- Limitless Stamina: The Hulk's body counteracts fatigue toxins that build up in his muscles during physical activity. In an enraged state the Hulk is capable of pushing himself at peak physical capacity for several days before fatigue even starts to set in. It needs to be noted, that like everything with The Hulk, his stamina is directly linked to his rage, so the angrier The Hulk gets, the more he is able to push himself. In an enraged state, The Hulk was able to successfully stalemate a Warrior's Madness Thor, a state which temporarily enhances Thor's strength and stamina to 10 times that of his normal state.
- Limitless Durability: In addition to his immense strength, The Hulk's body possesses an incredibly high degree of resistance to physical injury. The Hulk has survive tremendous amount of punishment throughout his career. The Hulk's skin is naturally impervious to conventional weapons; bullets, missiles, regular blades all have shown to do little to no damage to The Hulk. This resistance also goes to his eyes, as the Hulk has taken grenade shrapnel, Hawkeye's arrows, and the Valkyrie's enchanted blade to his eyes and wasn't phased. The Hulk has shown to be able to withstand powerful energy blasts, pressure extremes, orbital entry, maximized heat without blistering, maximized cold without freezing and insanely powerful impacts. Some of those impacts were several times the impact of ground zero nuclear explosions, the Human Torch's Nova Blast, with a maximum temperature of one million degrees Fahrenheit, and also the crushing pressures of 100Gs without suffering any harm. The Maestro, a supposed future Hulk, had a robot called the Dog O' War, which was supposed to be able to crush adamantium in only seconds, had Hulk's exposed neck in its jaws, and it wasn't even able to lacerate The Hulk's skin before being ripped apart. Some of the more extreme examples of The Hulk's durability was when he was able to withstand a planet devastating impact, a planet shattering impact at point blank range, and even a blow from the planet eater Galactus. Even though it doesn't need to be said, his durability is also tied to his anger; the angrier The Hulk gets, the more resistant The Hulk gets.
- Superhuman Speed: Despite The Hulk's massive size, his superhumanly strong legs allow him to run at speeds that are completely beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athletes. In fact, The Hulk's speed is high enough, that while he was tunneling underground from Subterranea (a literal underground kingdom,) to California, the Avengers feared that The Hulk would fracture the San Andreas fault line in a matter of hours. Some of the more incredible feats of velocity that The Hulk has demonstrated was outperforming an fighter jet, while on land. But his speed doesn't just go with on land, The Hulk was able to swim at roughly 80 knots, and was even a match for Namor, the King of Atlantis, who was travelling fast enough to leave whirlpools in his wake. The Hulk has also been shown to be extremely agile, being able to dodge rounds fired at close proximity, catching mortar shells and missiles launched at him, and even managing to catch a bullet in his teeth mid-transformation. The Hulk has often shown matching the combat speeds of the likes of The Gladiator and The Sentry, both of whom are like Superman with their speed.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite The Hulk's incredible durability, it is possible to cause harm, and even manage to incapacitate The Hulk, even if it just for a time. But, The Hulk is capable of regenerating damaged, or destroyed, areas of his entire body, yes even limbs and internal organs, with much greater speed and efficiency than that of an ordinary human. In fact, The Hulk was able to systematically regenerate his internal organs and tissues, as shown in the battle with the villain called Vector, who had extracted all of The Hulk's skin and most of his muscle mass. The damage was regenerated within seconds. In an unknown future, a persona called "The Maestro" was able to rebuild his entire body after being atomized. The Omega-Level biokinetic, Elixir's death touch was only able to temporarily stop The Hulk. As with everything related to The Hulk, the angrier he gets, the more potent and powerful his healing becomes. This is shown when a woman named Carmilla Black injected a chemical substance that was able to counteract his healing factor. Amadeus Cho, a friend of The Hulk's, was then able to get him enraged enough that his body dispelled the toxin.
- Disease Immunity: The Hulk, because of his regenerative ability, is completely invulnerable to all known, Earth-based diseases and viruses, including AIDs.
- Halted Aging: For all intents and purposes, The Hulk lives indefinitely. Because of his enhanced regenerative healing factor, and the properties of the gamma energy that empowers him, The Hulk has an indefinite lifespan. A future persona, The Maestro, was well over a hundred years old, and besides his long white beard, was in the physical prime of his life.
- Reactive Adaptation: There have been several events in the past where The Hulk not only faced extended periods of time in oxygen-deprived outer space without suffocating. But he has also frequently spoke in the deep vacuum of space. The Hulk has been shown to be able to harmonize his biological structure to his surrounding habitat, be it space, the deepest parts of the ocean, or any other possibility. In terms of the ocean, The Hulk has walked on the bottom of the ocean several times, and his body creates a gland that allows him to breathe, speak, and even fights of decompression and nitrogen narcosis.
- Telepathic Resistance: The Hulk has shown on many occasions to be high resistant to psionic attacks, theorized to be a side-effect of his rage, and the multiple personalities within his mind. When in an ideal, and perfect, situation, The Hulk is practically impossible to enslave. As with everything, the angrier he gets, the more resistant he gets. This has been demonstrated on many occasions, some examples are when Professor X tried to attack The Hulk, and he was able to continue on. When The Sentry used his mental powers to cause everyone to forget he ever existed, and The Hulk remembered, and was even able to fight the mental control of the mutant Apocalypse when he turned The Hulk into his horseman, War. On an occasion, The Hulk proved to be unaffected by a telepathic assault, which had proven to be powerful enough to mesmerize the entire human population.
- Atral Form Perception: Due to The Hulk's desire to be the strongest, more powerful, fearless being in all existence he has developed the ability to see the astral forms, or ghosts, of those with the ability to project them. He's even been shown as being able to physically interact with those beings. The reason this ability came about was because of Banner's subconscious fear that his father's ghost would come back to haunt Bruce, so The Hulk developed this power to be able to see him coming. The Hulk has used this ability on many occasions, most of them being related to interacting with Doctor Strange. Recent events have shown that Banner is able to utilize this ability, though the clarity less than what The Hulk would be able to see.
- Homing Ability: The Hulk has the ability to locate the area in New Mexico where Banner first became The Hulk. This is applicable when The Hulk and Banner are in different dimensions. It currently isn't know why The Hulk has this power, but it's been theorized it's because of The Maestro's spirit calling them there. Some of the other applications of this power has been when The Hulk was able to find Rick Jones, a friend of his, Betty Ross, The Abomination, and even know that The Vision was approaching him, even though he wasn't able to actually see or hear the avenger.
Abilities:
As Bruce Banner:
Super-Genius Intelligence: Doctor Robert Bruce Banner is a classified as a Super-Genius, having once been labelled as the fourth smartest person in the world. Banner, in his own words, has seven PhDs, most notable being Nuclear Physics and Biochemistry. He has been shown as being so brilliant that his intelligence was impossible to measure. Because of his extraordinary mind, Banner is capable of processing an extreme amount of data in an amazingly short amount of time. Some of the more amazing feats that Banner had done was process thousands of data to reconfigure an advanced and extremely sophisticated computer system that was meant to take over the world, in a matter of seconds. He has made an extremely advanced computer virus that even Tony Stark was unable to counteract.
- Master Scientist: Banner is brilliant in many different fields of science, notably biochemistry, and bio-organics, as well as both atomic and radio physics. One of the world's most renown scientists overall, even fellow genius Tony Stark admired Banner's brilliance, claiming that the latter's work on anti-electron collisions is unparalleled, while Nick Fury referred to Banner as the world's foremost expert in gamma radiation.
- Master Engineer: Banner, while not quite on par with Tony Stark, is an extremely skilled engineer, computer scientist, and robotics technician. Due to his knowledge and skills, Tony enlisted the help of Bruce to construct the Hulkbuster armor.
- Expert Tactician: Banner has over the years become an expert in developing strategies to go unnoticed and run from the government, military, and even S.H.I.E.L.D. by using his intellect to quickly evaluate his surroundings and develop feasible escape strategies. As such, Banner also became quite skilled at going undercover.
- Skilled Physician: Because of his vast knowledge over the sciences, Banner has developed a fairly decent understanding of the human body. Because of this he is able to help with quick remedies for any situation he might find himself, or others that he cares about, in.
Self-Restraint: It's been shown that when The Hulk is in charge, Banner can influence the Hulk's behavior, however the full extent of this isn't known. An example of this however, is when the Hulk asked for Jean Grey to psionically shut Banner off so that the Hulk's full power could be unleashed against the threat of Onslaught.
Polyglot...kind of: Banner has been shown as fluent in Russian. He also has passable knowledge of Spanish, Hindi, and Portuguese.
As The Hulk:
Skilled Combatant: The Hulk is a skillful and capable warrior, demonstrating vast versatility and intuition in battle, like anticipating and exploiting the weakness of Hyperion (who is basically Marvel's answer to Superman) and catching Spider-Man mid dodge. As the Green Scar, he has had training in combat arms, including broadswords, spears, axes and shields.
Weapons/Equipment:
As Bruce Banner, he utilizes several different gadgets that he has created, they are as follows;
BannerTech PDA: A mobile operating system that he can hack sophisticated systems within moments and is linked to a contact lens that Banner wears most of the time. This helps give off the impression that he is actually controlling it with his mind.
BannerTech Wrist-Watch Teleporter: A pocket sized teleport device Banner can spontaneously warp himself and others across vast distanced with. Usually to Avenger's tower.
BannerTech Shield: Banner has created a gamma and old power fueled shield that protects him from most physical harm. It has been shown to protect him from beings as strong as Skaar (Hulk/Banner's son) and the Juggernaut. Banner is able to extend this shield to cover several other people and also redirect the energy to increase his strength.
As The Hulk, he is trained in the use of swords, spears, and different kinds of shields. Hulk is also known to utilize anything he can lift as a weapon; cars, trucks, tanks, buildings, and the like.
History:
Due to the fact that The Hulk and Banner first appeared in 1962, their history is incredibly complex and dense. I will be doing my best to explain the most pertinent information, while cutting out some of the fat. Robert Bruce Banner is the son of Dr. Brian Banner, an atomic physicist, and his wife Rebecca. Although Rebecca deeply loved Bruce, who returned her affection, Brian hated their child. Brian never wanted children because of what happened to him and his sisters Susan and Elaine Banner. An alcoholic, and a very, very angry man, Brian was driven by an insane jealousy of Bruce for being an object of Rebecca's love. Further, Brian believed that his radiation work had altered his DNA and given him a mutant son.
These factors led to Brian abusing Bruce physically. One of the people who helped Bruce cope with Brian's tantrums was his maternal cousin Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk), with whom Bruce used to spend summers in the public library reading for hours. Banner's life had reached a turning point however, when his father murdered his mother, and caused Bruce to go live with his aunt.
After some time it was revealed that Bruce was actually a child prodigy, learning at a rate faster than most other people. Having graduated early, Bruce attended multiple colleges; Oxford (where he met and befriended one Tony Stark), Harvard, Pennsylvania State University, Desert State University, and earned his degree in Nuclear Physics at Caltech. Early on, Bruce fashioned himself after his role model; Einstein, choosing to wear purple clothing. Eventually Bruce would try his hand at philanthropic brands of science, but due to having no backers, ended up working for Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross (Red Hulk). While working for Thunderbolt, Banner met his daughter, Betty, fell in love with the woman almost instantly. The General, always looking for more ways to win a war, had Banner develop a "G-Bomb" or "Gamma Bomb". And it was with this bomb that Bruce's life changed forever.
We all know a version of how this played out. Bruce was at ground zero, bomb goes off, now he's the Hulk, so I won't go into detail. What I will say is that Bruce's life has been one of heartache and misery, always getting so close to freedom; freedom from self loathing, freedom from the pain, freedom from the Hulk, only to have it all taken away at the last possible chance. The Hulk is actually a founding member The Avengers, having teamed up with Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man and The Wasp to help stop Loki's evil schemes. The Hulk has been a member of multiple teams, he's gone toe-to-toe against the strongest and most powerful enemies the world has ever seen, and has, on several occasions, become the enemy.
Banner, and the Hulk, were even exiled from Earth, and while they were extremely angry at the time it had become the greatest thing for the two. They discovered a woman, Caiera Oldstrong, on a war torn planet. The Hulk helped Caiera usher in an age of peace and tranquility. In turn, she helped the two halves learn how to accept each other and work together. Eventually, both halves would come to love the woman, and admired her for everything she had done for them. One random day, as Banner was walking around the palace he heard the voices of several guards. Interested in what was going on, Banner went to them, only to be told that the shuttle he and The Hulk had came to Sakaar on, was acting strange.
Banner rushed to it as quickly as he could, only to discover that the shuttle was actually getting ready to blow. Working as quickly as he could, while also making sure he didn't disturb the slumbering giant, Banner did everything in his power to weaken the blast. On his knees, elbow deep in the engines, he issued his commands, demanding that the Warbound (his allies) get Caiera and the rest of the citizens to a safe place far away from them. Banner did his best to stay calm, knowing that the next minute or two was going to be life altering. He turned his head to see the shuttles leaving the court grounds. Banner smiled as he saw the woman he loved, the mother of his child, fleeing to safety. He heard the beeps get louder and louder and turned only to be greeted with a face full of blistering heat. The pain was intense, so much so that it had knocked Banner out cold. When Banner finally awoke, he discovered that he was back on Earth...but what of Caiera?
Weaknesses:
As Banner;
The Fear of Losing Control: Only Banner fully understands the full limit of The Hulk's destructive capability. Because of this knowledge, Banner is terrified of the idea of losing control to The Hulk.
Dissociative Identity Disorder: Due to the abuse he suffered as a child, Bruce suffers from D.I.D., also known as "Multiple Personality Disorder". Because of how complex Bruce's mind is, and the alter ego he has living within, his other personalities are all versions of The Hulk. Because of this, Bruce's psyche is rather fragile, capable of shattering under duress.
As The Hulk;
Gamma Radiation Draining: The Hulk is sometimes portrayed as vulnerable to gamma radiation draining by sufficiently powerful energy manipulators. However, over time, the Hulk has developed a high degree of immunity to this weakness. For example, the mutant Darwin was unable to drain his gamma radiation, and Hulk deliberately transferred his energy into an entire race of absorbing entities without collapsing.
Radiation Bombardment: Hulk was vulnerable to being weakened by radiation bombardment in the past, a weakness exploited by his enemy X-Ray, who was able to weaken or even transform him back into Banner. But, like with all of The Hulk's weaknesses, he eventual grew to be resistant, to some degree, to this weakness.
Gas Inhalation: Great doses of gas can temporarily neutralize the Hulk. However, it is not an insurmountable obstacle, since the Hulk can dissipate the gas with a powerful thunderclap, which in turn can end up destabilizing the opponent with the resulting shockwaves.
Adamantium and Vibranium Blades: They have been shown capable of piercing the Hulk's skin; Wolverine, X-23, and the Black Panther's claws can pierce it. However, as the Hulk's rage increases they become progressively less effective, reaching the stage they are completely unable to harm him.
Adrenaline Suppression: Adrenaline inhibitors can be administered via syrings of Adamantium or Vibranium, aiming to revert the transformation. Amplified quantities can accomplish this purpose, but due to his amazing regenerative healing factor, the effects never last too long. And if all else fails, "The angrier Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets."
Toxic Substances: Once, Carmilla Black (a version of the villain Scorpion) injected him with a toxin especially designed to counteract the efficiency of Hulk's healing factor. However, if the Hulk gets angry enough he can nullify this effect, as he demonstrated later.
Rage Nullification: The Hulk's rage also can be neutralized; certain individuals can calm the Hulk down. Betty Ross and Sentry successfully calmed the Hulk down in several instances. Spider-Man once told The Hulk a joke so funny that he actually reverted back to Bruce just so he could laugh at it. Telepaths with vast empathy potential can theoretically emulate this effect also.
Strength Increasing Factor: The Hulk normally does not achieve full strength in the first moments after his transformation. Unless there is a substantial and significant event that breaks Banner's restraints and triggers far superior amounts of adrenaline in his circulatory system, he can theoretically be defeated in earlier stages of transformation. His strength level at any given moment may also be inferior to that of his opponents.
Magic: Depending upon Hulk's emotional state, his incarnation, and the power magnitude of the magic manipulator, this could be a potential threat. Although the Hulk has been shown to be injured more easily by enchanted weapons than regular weapons.
Extreme Conditions: The Hulk can be hurt or killed by cosmic entities or individuals with similar extraordinary levels of power such as Silver Surfer, Galactus, Thanos and the like; and under some conditions be psychically manipulated by exceptionally powerful telepaths.
Other Information:
I will be playing a version of The Hulk that incorporates elements from the MCU, and several Marvel story arcs, some things will be omitted, like when Banner and The Hulk were seperated.
Any and all information can be found here, here, and here.
Banner has actually created technology that has helped protect the world from several different kinds of disasters, diseases, and cataclysmic events.
The Hulk is actually a founding member of The Avengers, alongside Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man and Wasp.
I reiterate, I will not utilize The Hulk at his strongest unless told by the Staff for Site Plot reasons. I will make sure that anyone who chooses to RP with The Hulk specifically, gets a fair treatment.
