ELSA BLOODSTONE
Real Name: Elsa Bloodstone
Alias: Bloodstone
Title: Professional Monster Hunter
Identity: Public
Age: 25
Species: Human in her universe/Human Vagrant on New Earth
Physical Appearance: Elsa Bloodstone is a tall, lean, and lanky woman, standing at about 5 feet 9 inches, with a round face, sharp blue eyes, and pouting cherry lips. Her long red hair is thick, coarse, and constantly up in a ponytail, as she is unable to do much else with it, and generally needs it out of the way in her line of work. Elsa has an affinity for long trench coats, specifically for their deep pockets that easily hide her hunters' tools when out on a job. She wears a blood red stone – a fragment of her father's bloodgem - against her throat, affixed to a black leather band, and is never seen without it.
Personality: Despite her beauty and charming British accent, Elsa Bloodstone is more thorns than rose, never backing down from the opportunity to spit out a snide remark or snarky comment. Though she has the knowledge and skills to make her an worthy asset to any team, her deep-seated pride and need to handle tasks completely on her own prevents her from working well with others. She believes receiving help from anyone is a proof of weakness, and is only a means of slowing her down from achieving her goals. Because of this, Elsa often comes off as cold and uncaring, as well as a sarcastic know-it-all with a huge ego.
Beneath the prickly exterior, however, Elsa suffers from childhood abuse issues and low self-worth. She is her harshest critic and will not accept anything less than her own perfection, believing every wrong move or misstep to be a complete failure on her part that must be remedied immediately.
Powers:
Bloodgem Fragment – Elsa's bloodgem choker grants her superhuman strength, speed, agility and endurance, as well as minor regenerative abilities. It also acts as a magical ward against vampiric creatures. When tapping into these abilities, Elsa's entire body glows a warm crimson, with a particularly bright beacon of magical energy emanating from the stone itself.
Bloodstone Bloodline - Due to her monster hunter lineage, Elsa's blood tastes foul to bloodsucking creatures and acts like holy water against vampires, effectively killing them if they consume it. This also offers her immunity to the effects of vampire bites. It should be noted that the abilities the bloodgem fragment grants her may be more tied to her natural abilities than she realizes.
Abilities:
Expert Monster Hunter: Through her training and adventures, Elsa is able to track and identify most creatures of the monstrous persuasion, and has encyclopedic knowledge of how to effectively take them down.
Arcanic Knowledge: Though not a spellslinger herself, Elsa has an extensive knowledge of the magical and monstrous worlds, and proficiency in using magical items and tools to her advantage, as well as using components from her hunts to create new ones. She can also identify magical artifacts and rituals on sight.
Firearm/Melee Proficiency: Elsa is skilled with most styles of guns, with a taste for Uzis and assault rifles in particular. She is an accomplished fighter and gymnast - her fighting style is acrobatic, yet quite scrappy and does not follow a specific form of martial art.
Weapons/Equipment: Numerous guns, including a shotgun that uses silver cross buckshot shells; various monster/vampire hunting paraphernalia found from her father's collection of artifacts, including, but not limited to, a 30-ft lasso made of rosary beads (effective against demons and other dark creatures, also good for roping in general), various rune-encrusted knives, and several one-use consumable items of wondrous effects. Elsa also tends to carry a portable kettle, several infusers, and many, many varieties of tea.
History:
(Most info on Elsa's history has been pulled from Marvel.com, the Marvel Wiki, and her entry on TV Tropes. However, due to contradictory backstories and very loose continuity, Elsa's story has been expanded, reinterpreted and shifted around a bit for this canon's universe.)
Elsa Bloodstone is the daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone, an infamous monster hunter, whose super strength and immortality were derived from the mystical Bloodgem embedded in his chest. This powerful crystal wore away at his very soul, and his legacy needed to be passed on to the next in his lineage before he inevitably died from its power. When Elsa was born, he announced his intent of passing his inheritance as a hunter to his new daughter, despite pleas to the contrary from his wife, Elise. Unable to handle the constant monster attacks on her family from her husband's work and never wishing such a life on her little girl, Elise divorced Ulysses and fled with a two year old Elsa from Boston to the UK, hoping for a simpler life, far away from her ex-husband and the things that go bump in the night.
However, through the use of the ancient artifacts at his disposal, Ulysses was able to metaphysically locate and contact his daughter through her dreams, sending her nightmares of monsters, vampires, and other terrors in order to begin her grooming to take on the Bloodstone legacy. Through this dreamscape training, Elsa learned how to take down such creatures, becoming jaded to their grotesque appearances or manipulative natures. By the time she was ten, Ulysses believed her practical training and hunter knowledge was sufficient enough and abducted her from her mother's England home to begin a regiment on the physical plane.
For the next five years, Elsa trained against her will with her father, whose demand for absolute perfection was suffocating, terrifying, and incredibly painful. Every mistake was met with punishment - untreated injuries that were merely scoffed at, toxic monster guts burning into her flesh without being allowed to clean it, threats to be left alone in the dark, waiting to be eaten alive. She tried to run away several times, tried to find her way back home to her mother, but she never knew where in the world she was and Ulysses was always able to find her before she got very far. Unable to escape, Elsa focused instead on never making mistakes, hoping that with each perfectly executed hunt, she would be one step closer to being able to go home.
At fifteen, though he lamented that his daughter was an unworthy heir to his family line, Ulysses had taught Elsa all he knew, and unceremoniously returned her to her mother in England, as if she had never left. But in her time away, Elsa had grown to be a cold and untrusting woman, keeping to herself for the rest of her teenage years, constantly looking over her shoulder for gnashing teeth or slobbering jaws in the darkness.
Though she tried to lead a normal life again for the next few years, Elsa would never again know what it was to be 'normal.' At eighteen, she received word that her father had finally died and left her the Bloodstone House, the family estate in Massachusetts, as well as all the artifacts and servants that he left behind with it. Ulysses' death confirmed, Elsa and Elise moved back to the United States to settle the estate. While exploring the house, Elsa came upon one of many secret chambers and discovered her father's manservant, who happened to also be Frankenstein's monster, Adam, living therein. Adam had been left with the instruction to provide Elsa a fragment of her father's Bloodgem in the form of a necklace upon his death, granting her his former abilities and solidifying her position as the Bloodstone Hunter.
Elsa had since turned her father's estate into a curio shop, selling books, oddities and curiosities to the general public, and has gone on several adventures in the world of vampires and monsters, building a reputation for herself as a tracker and hunter of the dark and weird. As she is a professional hero, she was one of the 142 superheroes who signed the Superhuman Registration Act, and is legally registered as a monster hunter and superhero in the United States.
When the interdimensional monster, Shuma Gorath, decided to pay her world a rather destructive visit, Elsa was immediately called upon for her services and knowledge in such matters, along with other cosmic and magical experts in her field. Thanks to their efforts, it appeared the Elder Creature was finally being shoved back into the plane of existence it came from and preparing to shift dimensions again, but Elsa was still on its back, blasting it with shotgun shells and leaping frantically between its tentacles to regroup with the others. Annoyed by this redhaired flea shooting at it, the creature snatched her up in its tendril to throw her off of him, only to toss her through the closing portal surrounding it.
Weaknesses:
Bloodgem-Granted Powers: Elsa believes her superhuman abilities are directly connected to the Bloodstone, and if her necklace is removed she cannot tap into them. While these powers are actually a part of her genetic makeup, they are mentally blocked by her if she is not wearing the bloodgem fragment.
Remarkable Human (But Still Human): Whether or not her powers come from the bloodstone she wears or they are strictly her own, Elsa is still physically a human being, with most of the weaknesses that come with it. She can be hurt, broken, or killed, and any regenerative abilities she may have at her disposal only allow her to recover faster than average, not immediately. In other words, an injury that would heal in a week for a normal human would recover in Elsa in a manner of days instead.
I Can Handle This Myself: Elsa is not a trusting person, and prefers to take matters into her own hands. Though she is fully capable of this, her inability to accept help when she needs it often leads her neck-deep into trouble. Much of this stems from the “training” she received from her father as a child that people are useless, and thus expendable at best, or a liability at worst.
Other Information:
Elsa loves tea, and often packs a cordless electric kettle and travel mug with her tracking gear so she doesn't miss teatime. She's often spilling teabags and leaves about when rummaging through her pockets for other gear.
She's been known to use “Buffy Speak,” and often makes up or smashes together words to describe a thought or command in dire situations. (IE: GET GUN FOR SHOOTINESS!)
In her own world, Elsa used to write a weekly internet blog that categorizes every type of monster and alien creature, their usual habitats, and their weaknesses. She hoped to eventually get her work published into a legitimate reference book. Now on New Earth, she has to start from square one, but at least it gives her something to do on her off-time.
