RAVEN[/div]
Real Name: Rachel Roth
Alias: Raven
Identity: Secret
Age: 16
Species: Neo(Vagrant, Demon-human hybrid)
Physical Appearance: Rachel is an interesting sight, to say the least. There is simply no way this girl can NOT stand out despite efforts otherwise. Maybe it's her decidedly gothic fashion sense, her deathly pale skin, her eerie stare, or perhaps a combination of the three. Either way, she's not very forgettable.
Standing at about 5'4(give or take a few inches thanks to the tall boots she likes to wear), with almost piercing blue eyes and her black hair kept at a chin length bob cut and accentuated by purple highlights, and sporting a trim, slender figure with great legs that all but promises she will blossom into the envy of many a young woman when she's finished filling out, Rachel has inherited many of her mother's good looks and can be considered a rather pretty girl once you've gotten past her complexion's noticeable pallor...
...Till things get bad. When Rachel loses control of her emotions and her demon side takes over, her skin pales even further to a solid ash-gray color, her eyes turn pitch black with glowing red pupils, and black veins appear on her face and body, and her voice becomes deeper, and black smoky tendrils wreathe around her, making her, well, TERRIFYING. Of course, at this time considering what she's capable of, her appearance at this point is probably the least frightening thing about her.
Normally, Rachel favors dark clothes that seem to go somewhere around the "Goth" range. Her choices tend to be shades of black, blue, and purple while being reasonably fashionable and show off her figure a bit, yet she never strays from modest selections due to being a little self-conscious about her unusual appearance. Sometimes it's longsleeve tops, skirts, and hose or tights, other times its longsleeve tops and jeans, with studded belts and fingerless gloves as well as black stompy boots(often with a heel for added height) and often covered with a hooded trenchcoat she is rarely seen without. Her most notable accessory she will never be seen without is a gold necklace with a small red chakra jewel, a gift from her mother that helps her focus her energy and control the darker aspects of her soul better. When she suits up, Raven affixes the gem to her forehead.
In costume, Raven dons a form-fitting purple leather bodysuit to protect her from injury while not inhibiting movement, with xylon fibers interweaved to protect her vitals from harm, with dark blue tights and purple boots and fingerless gloves reaching just between her elbows and shoulders, accessorized with a gold belt with ruby charms around her waist and a hooded purple cloak held by a ruby broach.
Personality: At first impression, Rachel seems like a textbook "goth girl", but the truth of the matter is that Rachel is... complicated. There's who she wants to be and who she feels she has to be. Rachel would like to be more outgoing, have friends, and do the kind of activities normal teenage girls do, but she simply sees that as completely out of the question with the looming threat that she will one day be used to end the world if her father has his way, and how she's likely just one bad day away from making that a reality. As a result of what she is and knowing what she was conceived for, as well as how closely tied to her emotions her powers are, Rachel is a rather reclusive and brooding individual, carrying an air of mystery around her. Studious, mature beyond her years, and reserved, Rachel is a girl who values her privacy and thus can be comfortable being somewhere quiet by herself either meditating or with only a book as company, an opportunity to escape her inner turmoil for a while and as a result can get very moody very quickly if this "me-time" is continuously interrupted. This coupled with her insecurities of how others see her or how they may see her if they know where she comes from and what she may one day do, Rachel has a habit of keeping others at arm's length and as a result can sometimes come off as somewhat aloof and standoffish.
Under the surface, however, Rachel is a very lonely girl who hates having to supress her emotions and constantly living in fear of what could happen if she does not. While she is willing to humor others who try to befriend her to an extent, figuring they will simply come and go in her life, Rachel fears letting them get too close as she is afraid of being abandoned and seen as a freak or a monster, which she is very sensitive about, while at the same time fearing she may one day get them hurt, either by those who worship her father or by her own hand. She covers her insecurities and fears with a very sardonic, snarky demeanor and is almost always prepared with a sarcastic remark for almost any situation as part of the wall she puts up around herself. When Rachel begins to trust someone, she will start to open up and show a warmer side towards them. Deep down, Rachel would love nothing more then to make friends who can accept her and support her, and if someone can do that and make it past her layers and gain her trust, there is nothing in the world she won't do for them. The most prominant example is her teammates, the Titans, whom she has formed a powerful bond of friendship with over the years she has worked with them.
While honestly a kind and caring person once one gets past her walls, there is a darker side to Raven, caused by her demon heritage. While she has spent her life learning to control her negative emotions and thus it takes a lot to rile her up(harming someone she cares about is probably the most effective way), when she does lose control, her darker impulses come out in full force. Raven can become sadistically cruel or just plain explosively angry towards the source of her outburst due to her father's malevolent influence dominating her for a period of time before she comes to her senses, and is often left feeling extremely ashamed and guilty if someone has gotten hurt as a result.
Raven has a fondness for herbal tea and reading, particularly the occult and horror/thriller genre along with the occasional fantasy novel. She has quite a collection of books at home and it has motivated her to volunteer at the local library when she has the time for it. She typically tries to solve problems the peaceful way out of fear of what she could do if she were to lose control, but when the situation calls for it, she will fight to protect the innocent and those she calls friends.
Powers: Raven has inherited a number of potent magical abilities from her father, and trained in them since early childhood in Azarath in order to keep them in check. Her powers include:
Soul-Self/Astral Projection: Raven's primary ability and basis of her powers. Raven can project her spiritual essence from her body in the form of a massive black raven that emerges from her shadow and have it interact with the world around her, or communicate with others from long distances if she can determine where they are. Under normal circumstances, Raven can also contact and access other dimensions through more complex rituals and focus, though she is unable to do so on this world due to its nature.
Telekinesis: Raven can project small portions of her soul-self on to inanimate objects and move them with her mind, though this requires hand gestures and incantations for better focus. When she does this, the object becomes engulfed in a black aura.
Empathic Manipulation: Raven can read and sense the emotions of others, as well as determine if their mind has been altered in some way.
Accelerated Healing: Raven can accelerate healing from injury through intense meditation, and can induce this ability in others by physical contact and forming a psychic link with them, however doing so subjects her to any pain they are feeling until they have recovered or she has severed the link. This does not work on more serious injuries, however.
Flight: Raven can fly, hover, and levitate of her own volition.
Shadow Manipulation/Umbrakinesis: Raven can manipulate pure darkness by imbuing it with her soul-self's energy and give it a variety of shapes, including:
-SHADOW CONSTRUCTS: Raven can give any darkness under her control solid shape, often tendrils, claws, eldritch blasts, streams of solid force, or blades to fight with, dome or shieldlike barriers to protect herself or floating disk-like platforms to ride on.
-SHADOW PORTAL: Using a combination of her soul-self and shadow manipulation, Raven can envelope herself and others close by with her soul-self's projection and teleport them and herself to any place she has been or that she can picture in her mind.
Hell Gate: If Raven falls completely under her father's influence, or is forced to do so through the Ritual of Blood, she can be used to fulfil her true purpose and open a gateway to Hell itself and summon Trigon's legions(or even Trigon himself) into this reality.
Abilities:
Spending much of her life in the temples of Azarath, Raven has acquired several skills over the years...
Arcane Knowledge: Raven is extremely well-versed and knowledgeable in the occult, possessing a variety of books, tomes, and scrolls. She is also familiar with various talismans, rituals, potions, and other occult artifacts.
Multilingual: Raven is fluent in English, German, Latin, Romanian, Ancient Sumerian, and Sanskrit.
Spellcasting: Due to her arcane knowledge, Raven knows a variety of spells and incantations, which she uses to better control her powers.
Weapons/Equipment: Raven does not carry weapons, not that she has any need of them. Her most notable posession is her chakra jewel she keeps with her at all times.
History: Angela Roth had made plenty of mistakes in her youth, but the biggest one was likely falling in with a devil-worshipping cult, who used her as a "bride" for their ritual. What appeared was a handsome being of angelic beauty that seduced her there and then, and Angela would learn soon after she had mated with the demon lord Trigon, who had impregnated her with a child who would be his greatest weapon, "the Raven", a harbinger of terrible power who would bring about his absolute rule after coming of age. Traumatized by this, Angela attempted suicide, but was rescued by acolytes from the realm of Azarath, who had sensed the power of her unborn child. Taking her to Azarath where Trigon would not find her, Angela was given a new start and gave birth to her child, Rachel. The guardian of the realm, Azar, personally raised and trained Rachel to help her learn to control and suppress the dark power she had inherited from her father so she could perhaps find a future other then becoming Trigon's pawn.
When Rachel had turned fifteen, she had come a long way in learning to control her powers through peaceful activities such as reading and meditation, though she and her mother still dreaded the knowledge that Trigon would do all in his power to claim her. With Azar's passing, Azarath became vulnerable and the pacifistic inhabitants refused to stand against the demon lord's legions should they come looking for his daughter, and Angela had no choice but to bring Rachel back to Earth.
Dreading her father's return, Rachel sought help from the world's heroes, eventually meeting a team of young superheroes and after a somewhat rocky start ended up forming a group called the Titans with them. Going by the name Raven, Rachel swore to use her powers for good and escape the horrible destiny her father had planned for her by becoming a superhero. Alongside Robin, Starfire, Beastboy, and Cyborg, the young hero team fought crime and defeated supervillains in San Francisco and the Titans became a household name.
One year later, however, Raven's 16th birthday came and Trigon set his plans into motion and nearly ended the world when she was forced by his agents to open a gateway to the hellish dimension he resided in. If not for the love and dedication of her teammates, he may have succeeded, but in the end Raven found the inner strength to regain the power Trigon stole from her and banish him back to his realm once more, saving the world from his reign.
A few weeks later, the unexpected happened, Raven was out on a mission, when she was suddenly engulfed in light. When she came to, she was unconscious in an unfamiliar alley in an unfamiliar city. Scared and unsure of where she was when she could sense the world felt different then the one she knew, Raven decided to look for answers and a way home...
Weaknesses:
Mortal: Raven is vulnerable to all the same things that can kill a normal human, provided she is unable to heal from it quickly enough.
Emotion Control: Raven's powers are tied to her emotions, and thus she must always keep her negative emotions in check as when she loses control of her emotions, she loses control of her powers and herself. While it does take a lot(or just the right button) to rile the girl up due to the intensive training she went through all her life to keep herself reigned in, when Raven gets angry, she gets ANGRY. This is mainly due to her demonic heritage and her suppression of her negative emotions. While small feelings are harmless, when she has been pushed over the edge and this happens, she loses all control of herself and flys into an explosive rage and her powers, due to being fueled by her emotions, will go completely haywire and knock away or even outright destroy anything in her immediate vicinity. This is not the worst of it, as when she experiences such a powerful surge of negative emotion, Raven's demonic nature and her father's evil influence takes over, making her extremely violent and even outright cruel towards the object of her fury, taking sadistic pleasure in harming them as well as lashing out at and threatening anyone near her and becoming unable to judge friend from foe until she has been calmed down or rendered unconscious.
Squishy Wizard: Raven can certainly dish plenty out with her powers, but she can't take much, being more a caster then a bruiser. While she does keep in good shape, her strength and endurance are just about that of an average girl of her age and build, so a lot of physical trauma can put her out of a fight pretty quickly.
Verbal Incantation: A lot of Raven's magic depends on the spoken incantation "Azarath Metrion Zynthos", a meditation mantra she uses to help even her out and focus her powers and use them to their fullest potential without giving in to her demonic nature. As a result if she is interrupted or silenced before she can finish, or otherwise rendered unable to say the incantation, her powers will dissipate and she will be unable to perform more complex spells safely until she is able to speak again.
Like Father, Like Daughter: Raven lives in constant fear of falling under her father's thrall and becoming the evil monster he conceived her to be. Losing herself to her emotions leaves her open to being possessed by his dark influence that haunts her mind and can turn her evil, and it can take anything from simply talking her down to having to access the inside of her mind to subdue it to return her to normal. Then there's her 18th birthday...
Loved Ones: Raven cares very deeply for her mother and anyone she comes to consider a friend, and there is nothing she won't do to protect them. This can be used against her, however, due to her self-sacrificing nature and self-loathing over what she is. Raven is terrified of the idea of anyone she cares about, or innocent lives being hurt because of her, or by her.
