STORM (in caps)[/div]
Real Name: Ororo Munroe
Alias: Storm
Identity: public
Age: 31
Species: mutant
Physical Appearance: A light-complected black woman, Storm's most striking feature is her pure white hair and blue eyes, which go all white when she uses her powers. A little above average height, at 5'5", she's simulataneouly slender and curvy in all the right places. She keeps herself very toned and physically fit. She keeps her hair around shoulder length, but has gone longer and shorter, and even wore a mohawk at one point. She looks several years younger than she is. Most often she has a serene or bemused expression.
Storm's had several costumes as well, but was wearing her black leather costume. While its not the material she prefers, it does provide slightly more protection from casual bumps and scrapes. There's also a black silk cape attached to her wrists to assist her use of the wind to fly. Out of costume, Storm shows great taste but definitely has her own aesthetic. She tends not to show a great deal of skin, and prefers lightweight fabrics that breathe easily.
Personality: Storm cultivates patience and serenity in her life, not through meditation, but by surrounding herself with the natural world. She needs time outdoors and particularly in gardens, parks and other green spaces. There's a strong connection to the living world, and less so to the steel and concrete of cities. While reluctant to fight, she's more than willing to do so, although seldom will she initiate hostilities without attempting to talk out the situation first. This willingness to talk and do what is necessary without revelling in it has made her a peacemaker among her teammates, and a forceful, respected leader.
Powers: Storm can psionically alter the weather in her immediate vicinity. She does not create new weather, but changes existing weather. If she causes it to rain in New York, it won't rain at another nearby location. She can use her powers for a wide variety of effects.
Lightning: her primary offensive power, by drawing lightning towards her, she can either control it from the clouds and strike a target or 'project' it from her hands.
Wind: most often, Storm uses her power to command the wind in order to fly. But she can also project hurricane force blasts of air or create tornados.
Snow and ice: even in the middle of summer, Storm can cause temperatures to plummet and hail storms or heavy ice to appear. It works well as a tactic to trap or ensnare a slow-moving foe and blind them.
Rain: just as with ice, she can choose not to lower the temperature and cause torrential downpours if she desires.
This is not an exhaustive list; just examples. If she was on an alien world, she wold be limited to that world's weather patterns. If near water, she could use a tornado to create a water spout. Her ability to combine and use her powers is limited only by her surroundings and imagination.
LOcal weather frequently reflects her mood, as a sudden shock or anger will produce a stormy day while a good mood might delay rains.
Abilities: Longtime member of the Thieves' Guild, Ororo is a very skilled pickpocket, who occasionally refreshes that skill on her teammates. She's also a talented lockpick, although more of the simple mechanical variety, rather than more modern safes or vaults. Although her powers are flashy, she is very stealthy as result of her upbringing as a thief.
Despite her powers, Ororo has received extensive coaching in the martial arts, and those who expect her to be helpless in melee are often surprised at just how good she is. She's usually able to hold her own, even in fights with multiple or slightly superhuman enemies.
She's a superb pilot, primarily of the X-men's Blackbird, but could learn to fly other aircraft.
In her long association with the X-men she is very well trained in operating in ever changing teams and conditions; thousands of hours of Danger Room sessions and a dozen years as an X-woman have honed her into a versatile and powerful combatant.
She speaks English, Swahili and Hausa fluently; her Egyptian Arabic is more conversational.
Weapons/Equipment: Storm typically only carries her cell phone, and a set of lockpicks concealed around her clothing. She wears a headset or uses a communicator attached to her costume's collar.
History: Born to a Kenyan princess and American photojournalist in the US, the young family moved to Cairo, Egypt, for her father's work when Ororo was just six months old. She had a happy, well-provided for early childhood, until an attack in one of Cairo's marketplaces, possibly from terrorists, possibly from government forces, killed her parents and left the very young Ororo buried under tons of rubble for hours. This horrific experience was the cause of her intense claustraphobia.
Once she was dug out of the rubble and found, the little girl no longer had any parents, and no way to contact her grandparents in the US. Orphaned and unknown, she was taken in by a kind thief who taught other orphans how to thieve and so make their ways in the world. She quickly became an accomplished thief, pickpocketing many tourists, among them, Charles Xavier, who was able to track her telepathically, and remembered the girl much later in her life. She was good enough to be initiated into the Thieves' Guild, and learned how to operate as a burglar.
Compelled by something to leave Cairo, Ororo wandered south, into the Serengetti. Only twelve years old, this nearly killed her, until the trauma caused her mutant powers to emerge. After that, she made her way easily, able to ease the heat and her thirst by her nascent control of the weather. She learned the cost of her powers, though, when she entered a village suffering from a severe drought. Making it rain for days to help them, she was horrified when one of the village priestesses showed her that her help had condemned other villages and countless animals to thirst and death. SHe learned that her abilities worked with nature, not apart from it.
As she gained control over her mutant powers, she began to be worshipped as a goddess, one who could bring the rains whenever they were needed. She wandered from village to village, staying only a short time at each, doing her best to make sure that she didn't unbalance nature when she helped them. During these wanderings, she met another wanderer, the Prince T'CHalla. The pair had a brief but memorable romance, and despite strong feelings for one another, they parted because T'CHalla felt himself unready for such a serious commitment.
In late teens, Charles Xavier re-entered her life, as he sought to recruit the former pickpocket to form a new team of X-men. Ororo accepted, and taking the codename of Storm, quickly became a key member of the team. She learned to fly the Blackbird, operate the Danger Room, and emerged as one of the team's leaders, eventually becoming Cyclops' equal and leading the team when the First Class had departed.
Leadership brought its own challenges, as the X-men were forced to work with Magneto when he decided to take the place of the missing and presumed dead Xavier, and when a device created by her lover, Forge, stripped Ororo of her mutant powers for some time. Despite that, she continued to lead the X-men and fight alongside them. Eventually regaining her powers, she led the team of mutants as they were hunted and had to abandon their Westchester home in favor of an old base of the Reavers in the Australian Outback.
In her roughly dozen years with the X-men, she's remained at the forefront of the team, an indefatiguable force for Xavier's dream of mutant and human peace.
Weaknesses: Storm suffers from acute claustrophobia, fear of enclosed spaces, from a building that collapsed on her a child. Its been used against her in the past when captured as her panicked state prevents her from using her powers with any sort of control. In general, the weather responds to her mood but her application of her powers is dependent on concentration, something she cannot attain when panicking in a confined space.
Storm is limited by her local environment to a certain degree in changing the weather. Its much more difficult for her to cause rain or snow in the desert than in a wet area. She's unable to completely calm a hurricane, although she could 'fight' one to some extent or disperse its power somewhat. Because she doesn't create weather, but shifts it to her location, she has to remain conscious of the areas effected by her powers, as diverting needed rain can cause ruinious drought nearby.
She's also something of a glass cannon, as her powers have less in the way of defensive abilities than some others, and those that know the X-men understand that her mobility and wide-ranging offensive powers can easily be taken out of a fight.
