Kris's alarm went off early in the morning. With a spring in her step, she was wide away and in the shower humming an upbeat tune. The steam from the hot water caused the mirror to fog up. After turning off the water and drying off, she wiped smear from the simple mirror and brushed her teeth. So far, as to most, this would be an everyday routine. And, like others, this was standard for the girl. The biggest difference, however: She was no longer living the life of high luxury. The shower was simple, the mirror doubled as a medicine cabinet, and there was only one lightbulb in the fixture that allowed two. The other major addition to her routine: after brushing her teeth, the former idol put in contacts. While not medically necessary, they covered up the colors of her eyes. Going from an ocean blue to a hazel-green, it was just one additional step to make sure nobody would recognize her. Although no longer being in the music industry, Kris, or rather Kristine, as she was going by, made it a point to keep her body in top shape. While waiting for her hair to dry, she worked on her stretches and yoga. Going into the splits, she reached up high and took in a deep breath before exhaling. Leaning forward, she grabbed her foot and went virtually parallel to the ground.
Walking into the kitchen, she poured a simple bowl of cereal and milk all the while listening to her music, dancing with her shoulders. A standard quality television played in the background, announcing the weather in the area. It was apparently suppose to be partly cloudy with a twenty percent chance of rain. Which reminded her, she would need to do something about the leaky window in her car. For now, a clear plastic bag was doing the job. Giving a quick glance at the clock, she turned off the television, changed into her uniform and gave a few sprays of her favorite perfume: Japanese cherry blossom with a hint of vanilla. It was one of the few things she carried over from her past life.
With a bounce in her walk, she left the simple house and climbed into her car. Although it was a two car garage, a few boxes and sheets took up most of the room. Pressing the button on the remote, the door opened, allowing the early morning sun to flood in. Turning the key, the engine of the old car groaned and choked. Turning it back off, she pressed the gas pedal before twisting the key once more. Again, groaning and choking, the old brown sedan sputtered and eventually chugged to life. Putting it in drive, the junker car pulled out on to the road and began the journey to the simple cafe a few blocks away.
Pulling into the parking lot and killing the engine. Kristine got out and gave a huge smile to the others. Despite being early by almost thirty minutes, she was ready to work. Straightening out her uniform a bit, and fixing her long brown hair, it went down to her waist and shifted in the soft breeze like silk. The black shirt was snug to her body. While it hugged her curves, it also provided a decent cover. Despite her jeans being well worn, they were free of holes and didn't have a single wrinkle out of place. The one thing that did stand out a bit, however, were her shoes. They were a deep blue with some soft grey and turquoise lines. If one didn't know better, they'd assume they were from an extravagant fashion line. "Kristine Johnson, reporting for duty!" She called out with a slight chuckle as she approached her supervisor.
Having been at this job for a little over a week, the girl was excited to start this day. And, unlike her times at interviews and sit-ins, although she mastered the "hold a sincere smile" look, the on on her face was genuine. Things were a different pace for her. Life was simpler. Although she was no longer living the high life, she felt more free. Not having to hide herself, or be wary of paparazzi. She could relax and be Kris Johnson, or rather, Kristine, as her nametag read.
