Virgil Hawkins
Name: Virgil Ovid Hawkins
Alias: Static, Sparky, High Voltage Hero, The Kilowatt Kid, V-man, Virg, ‘Hero’
Identity: Secret
Age: 17
Species: Vagrant
Physical Appearance:
At 5’7” and 140lbs, Virgil is the size of an average teenage boy, if a little slimmer than most. He wears his signature dreadlocks in a backwards wave to keep his hair out of his chocolate-brown eyes; using his static cling to ensure they always remain in place when he’s fighting crime.
In his casual civilian clothes, Virgil prefers to wear jeans and a pair of sturdy brown boots accompanied by baggy t-shirts with bright colours. He prefers oranges, yellows and other autumn colours for his attire and is never seen without his blue backpack or duffel bag in which he stores his superhero costume.
When donning the superhero disguise of Static, Virgil dons a mixture of black, blue and gold. His shirt is pitch black with a golden symbol of a lightning bolt on it, replacing the old costume which was a black symbol on white. Over this he wears a long jacket with a high collar that reaches down to his ankles that’s black at the top and blue at the bottom beginning at the waist and is golden on the inside. Around his waist is a golden metal belt that holds many of his gadgets not unlike Batman, the subject of much of his admiration.
Completing his superhero outfit are his blue and gold thick-soled boots at the bottom of black pants and last but not least, his signature white mask, the only white to survive the reimagining of his costume, that covers most of the top half of his face and have thick blue goggles in the style of visor sunglasses.
Even after puberty broke his voice it still maintains a slightly higher pitch than the average boy and his penchant for jokes and jovial attitude means that you usually hear Virgil before you see him.
Personality:
The first thing to know about Virgil is that he is unfathomably kind. A veritable font of compassion, Virgil has been taught from an early age by his father not to judge a book by its cover and readily approaches those seen as ‘outcasts’ with a friendly hand, offering everyone he meets the olive branch of friendship first and foremost. Though not overtly religious, Virgil was raised in a Christian household and has taken the teachings of ‘love thy neighbour’ to heart. Regularly assisting his father who runs the local community center, he has been hailed as a positive influence and a good role model for kids of all ages.
This compassion and kindness extends even to his villains, preferring to see the good in people and how they could learn to be instead of permanently branding people as ‘evil villains’. To those who are willing to try and reform their ways he is the first to offer help and guidance, perfectly happy to let bygones be bygones and bury the hatchet; even becoming good friends in the case of such villains as Rubber-band Man who turned over a new leaf despite their rocky relationship in the beginning.
Virgil is known to wear his heart on his sleeve and is easily read when it comes to his emotions. When he’s happy, his usual state, he’s all smiles and mischief and when he’s sad he wears a cloak of depression that wards off anyone who wishes to console him. People who push him when something is bothering him often get shut out and told to mind their own business but eventually he always confides in those who hang around to support him, even if initially he snapped out of frustration or despair. Ultimately, Virgil loves his friends and family deeply and shares all the highs and lows of life with them, even if it takes a while in the case of a particularly bad event.
While Virgil’s turning to a life of crime fighting may have been born from a love of comic books and idolising his real-life heroes, these aren’t the only things that keep him from packing up his mask. His father taught him from a young age that those with the strength to help people should and if everybody chipped in then the world would be a better place. This instilled a strong sense of duty in Virgil, one that began with volunteering where he could in the neighbourhood and helping with the community center his father ran and has now grown into a resolution to use his powers for the greater good that is unwavering in the face of many setbacks.
Another reason for his persistence in pursuing a life of crime fighting is the fact that he suffers from the same curse as every person that possesses great intelligence, the curse of crippling boredom. Unable to keep his mind from wandering, Virgil craves the excitement that comes with fighting crime and the adoration of his fans that cheer for him from the sidewalk. Though not exactly a hedonist, the rush that comes from overcoming danger and saving the day is something he revels in and he sometimes needs to be reeled in by his friends and family over concerns that he isn’t being careful enough.
Though generally more mild-mannered out of costume, as the superhero Static Virgil finds himself putting on a show of confidence and finds it difficult to stymy his penchant for one-liners and witty repartee. This gives an air of cockiness to everything he does and it doesn’t stop at just words, sometimes doing flips off his saucer mid combat or using overly showy methods of incapacitating criminals where a more direct approach would have been more effective. Fun loving and mischievous, Virgil often needs reminding to be more serious about his work and life in general.
Finally, the last thing to know about Virgil is that he still has room to grow as a person and he’s very aware of this fact. Having met a number of heroes he respects and admires in his time as a superhero, Virgil has come to realise that they’re less of an unattainable ideal and that they too are people like him who want to ensure that everyone is safe to live their lives free of devious plots and tyranny. This revelation has led to Virgil making a promise to himself that he will take his job of being a role model seriously and ensure that future generations follow his stellar example. When faced with tough decisions he will always choose to follow the course of action he believes is right, even if it’s the hardest of the options available to him. Not only this, but he expects the same high standard of morality of his fellow heroes and is perfectly happy to chastise people for taking shortcuts or using unsavoury methods in the pursuit of justice.
Powers:
Electrokinesis: Virgil naturally generates electricity over time and can manipulate it in a variety of ways. Each time he uses his powers, the amount of electricity in his body goes down and needs time to be replenished. However, Virgil can ‘drain’ electricity from outside sources and store it in his own body in the same way you would recharge a battery. This recharging is a quick process, but if Virgil takes on too much power without discharging it he can cause himself physical harm.
Ball Lightning: Useful for incapacitating multiple opponents at once, Virgil can create large balls of electrical energy that he can then throw in an attempt to deliver an electrical shock to multiple targets. The strength of this shock depends on the amount of power used in the ball’s creation but usually delivers a shock the same strength as a Taser to people hit by it.
Electric Constructs: Virgil can shoot electromagnetic light displays into the sky to form pictures and words that last a period of time depending on how much power was used in their creation. He can make these pictures or words flash like a neon sign to attract further attention. By putting enough power into these constructs, Virgil can create nets or cages capable of trapping people or moving objects.
Electromagnetic Force Bolts: One of Virgil’s primary offensive techniques, he can accumulate electromagnetic energy into a bolt of concussive force capable of knocking someone off their feet or moving heavy objects. These bolts can also be used to deliver an electric charge to objects and let him use his Static Cling ability at a distance.
Static Cling: Virgil can adhere almost anything or anyone to a surface or object in a form of extreme static cling. His primary uses for this ability are to stick criminals to ceilings where they can no longer be a threat or to adhere his boots to the Static Saucer so he can perform tight maneuvers or even fly upside-down without falling off.
Taser Punch: Virgil can wrap his fists (or other body parts) in an electrical current to deliver a non-lethal amount of electricity to people he comes into contact with. Receiving this current is akin to being shot by a Taser and causes muscle contraction, if not complete unconsciousness.
Electronic Manipulation: Virgil can apply his powers to electronics to make them serve his purposes. He can ‘overcharge’ a television or light bulb to make it emit a particularly bright light, make a stereo system play whatever sound he wants and has even used his power to bypass electronic security systems and get the information he needs from computers without inputting passwords; though this does require him to be at the terminal that has the information, as he is tricking the hardware and not hacking any programs.
Nova Burst: Virgil can create an incredibly bright light by running an electrical current through any normal piece of wire. This doesn’t last long but is visually more impactful than a professionally made Flashbang grenade (Though lacking the additional auditory component that makes them so effective).
Superconductive Electromagnetism: Virgil can sense sources of electromagnetic energy or objects that can be affected by it, even through walls or under the ground in the case of water pipes or electricity flowing in power lines. Additionally, Virgil can magnetise and demagnetise metals with a quick application of his power.
Electromagnetic Fields: Virgil can conjure a barrier of electromagnetic energy around himself or others that can block incoming attacks or even repel them given enough power to do so.
Electromagnetic Pulse: Virgil can create electromagnetic pulses capable of rendering all manner of electronics useless. The strength and range of this pulse are dependent on the amount of power used to create it and he can direct these pulses to limit the damage to only what he intends to disrupt.
Electromagnetic Levitation: Virgil can use his powers to make objects fly, it is easier to do this with metal objects and hardest to do with those made of wood. By using this power on clothes he can make people fly short distances but this power is mostly used to move the Static Saucer as his primary mode of transportation. Although Virgil doesn’t possess super strength, this power allows him to lift things far heavier than he could normally lift; having once kept an entire oil tanker from sinking long enough for the people on board to evacuate.
Wavelength Tuning: This power allows Virgil to hear radio transmissions such as police broadband and music stations. He can also use this power to tap into phone lines to make phone calls or turn metal objects into receivers so that others can hear these transmissions. By charging a metal object such as a dustbin lid and directing it at someone nearby, he can also use this power to listen in on people’s conversations as if the object were a directional microphone. In a less useful application of this power, Virgil has been known to charge CDs in order to listen to music without need for a device.
Immunity – Electricity: Virgil’s mastery of electricity renders him immune to it. This allows him to expose himself to powerful sources of electricity in order to recharge his power without risk to his well-being.
Immunity – Mind Control: After his first encounter with the Bang baby Madelyn Spaulding, Virgil discovered that his unique electrical field meant that trying to control his mind was impossible and if pushed creates a feedback loop that can render the assailant unconscious. This immunity doesn’t extend to normal telepathy, nor did it prevent Madelyn from influencing his dreams. This immunity merely means that control of his mind cannot be taken away from him and that he cannot be detected telepathically.
Improved Healing: Virgil’s Bang Baby physiology allows him to heal faster than average. A cut sustained on one day will be mostly healed by the next and it takes less time to recover from broken bones than normal people. This has made it easier to maintain his secret identity as he doesn’t need to hide bruises and cuts sustained in battle.
Abilities:
Acrobatics: Though possessing no formal training, Virgil has shown some aptitude in this field including handsprings and backflips.
Computer Operation: Along with his power to manipulate electronics, Virgil has proven to have a good understanding of computers and programming during his brief time at the Vanmoor Institute.
Engineering: His gifted mind in tandem with his superpowers makes Virgil pretty handy at fixing machines from kitchen appliances to advanced scientific equipment.
Persuasion: Virgil has a way with words and an honest heart that more than once has ensured that people listen to what he has to say. His understanding and influence with Bang babies has proven especially effective in convincing them to do the right thing without having to resort to violence.
Science: Virgil is an extremely gifted student in the fields of math and science, with a special aptitude for electronics and biology, fuelled by an interest in his own powers and those of the Bang Babies. His prowess in these fields have garnered him many offers of internship at companies such as Wayne Industries and S.T.A.R labs.
Invention: His friend Richie, aka Gear, is a very accomplished inventor and made most of Virgil’s equipment, but this doesn’t mean that he isn’t a capable inventor himself. During his time in the Vanmoor Institute, Virgil created a fully functional prototype capable of tracking unique electromagnetic signatures from scratch, showing his own prowess in this particular field.
Marksmanship: Though not your typical marksman in so much as he doesn’t use guns or bows, Virgil has shown an incredible aim when using his powers. Additionally, the speed of his bolts makes them difficult to dodge leading to him rarely missing unless it’s intentional.
Tactical Analysis: Virgil intuitively uses his knowledge of the sciences to assist him in his daily life and give him an edge in combat. This gives him an advantage over his less intelligent enemies.
Bilingual: Virgil speaks enough German to hold a simple conversation with a native.
Weapons/Equipment:
Static Costume: Virgil’s superhero costume is made of flexible metallic fibres that offer him some protection against blades and bullets but is more useful for the resistance it offers against acid and other chemicals that are sometimes produced by Bang Babies. The suit also has an incredibly high melting point, almost completely fireproof and can prevent the ill effects of freezing cold, all helpful in fighting the widely variable abilities of the Bang Babies. As an added bonus, the suit’s metallic fibers also make it easy to put the costume on or take it off in a hurry.
Static Goggles: Part of the mask that hides Virgil’s secret identity, the googles serve a functional purpose as well as being stylish. In addition to providing his eyes with protection from wind shear when using his powers to travel at high speeds, the special material they’re made of make them extremely resistant to damage and protect him from sudden bright lights such as his own Nova Burst power and thrown Zap Caps.
Static Saucer: Designed by his best friend Richie, the Static Saucer is Virgil’s primary mode of transportation when operating under his Alias as the Superhero Static. Made from a series of Mylar plates (A metalized Nylon stronger than reinforced steel), when given a charge they unfold into a large circular platform that he can then use to ride through the air using his power. The static saucer is capable of holding multiple people and with the use of Virgil’s powers has remarkable mobility. When uncharged the plates fold up into a disc that fits into the palm of his hand, small enough to fit into the jacket of his costume and easily hidden in his pocket when in civvies.
Static Tracers: Tiny metal devices made in the shape of the symbol on his costume, Virgil charges these devices with his own power do that they emit a beeping that can only be heard with his Wavelength Tuning power. By using his Static Cling, he can make these affix themselves to anyone or anything he desires.
Shock Vox: A hand held communication device powered by Virgil’s powers and emits an untraceable radio wave the changes rapidly due to the nature of his power. Has the benefit of being impossible to jam, hijack or listen in on, but the drawbacks of a limited charge and only being able to connect to other Shock Voxes. Virgil can also ‘feel’ these voxes with his Super-Conductive Electromagnetism (See: Powers) easier than most objects making it easy to find their owners when nearby. These devices look like walkie-talkies with black and yellow stripes across the top.
Zap Caps: Another invention of his best friend Richie, these canister’s store a portion of Virgil’s power. By filling these up with power whenever he has the spare time and energy, he uses the canisters to prepare for the eventuality of him running out of charge in a fight. He can remove the charge from them to give him a brief period of extra power in a tight situation when there is nothing nearby he can use to recharge, but their primary use is as grenades that explode with the force of one of his ball lightning attacks. These Zap caps can also be given to other people for use as a non-lethal weapon to defend themselves in a pinch.
Spare Wire: Used for a variety of purposes including the ‘Nova Burst’ (See: Powers – Nova Burst)
History: Born Virgil Ovid Hawkins, his childhood was filled with treasured memories of his loving mother, stern-but-caring father and the healthy rivalry between him and his older sister. His father works as the lead co-ordinator at the local community centre, in charge of the daily running of the centre and what programmes were offered to the troubled kids of the neighbourhood. His mother was a paramedic, a local hero of the community that was praised by all for her valour and selflessness. These good examples moulded him into a respectable member of the community, his constant sibling rivalry notwithstanding.
Tragically, the ideal family unit couldn’t last forever. When Virgil was still a young boy, there was a terrible riot in the streets of Dakota; an all-out gang war where the city ran red with fire and blood. The emergency services were taxed to breaking point during this time and Virgil’s mother volunteered to help with the crisis, her strong sense of duty that had won her much acclaim forcing her to act. She tucked her son into his bed, safe and warm away from the fighting, left the house, and never came back.
This left Virgil alone with his father and sister, who stepped up and assumed the role of surrogate mother to the unit, quickly maturing and looking after her baby brother despite his acting out. He had been permanently scarred by the loss of his mother, but with the love of his father and sister who remained strong because of him, he found the strength to carry on.
Almost a decade later, Virgil was an ordinary teenager and as such, was subject to the pressures that come with being an ordinary teenage boy. The fact that he was a gifted student made him a target for bullies who were jealous of his intelligence and he suffered from daily abuse at the hands of a few particularly bad eggs. Looking to benefit from having someone intelligent on his ‘crew’, Larry Wade, a teenage gang leader, offered him protection from these bullies in return for his joining the gang.
Larry persuaded Virgil to meet him in a quiet storage yard on the river that lay at the intersection of between his gang’s territory and two others with which he was currently at war. They had decided to end their warring once and for all in one climactic fight, a fact known by the police and the mayor of Dakota City. Virgil, unknowing as to the reason he’d been called to the yard, was horrified when Larry handed him a gun and told him to participate in the fight and promptly threw it into the river and tried to sneak away at the first chance he got.
Unfortunately for Virgil, he didn’t get far before the fighting was stopped by the use of tear-gas that mixed with chemicals that had been planted at the storage yard, resulting in a horrifying event that would later be known as the Big Bang. The teargas spread a chemical called Quantum Juice among the gang members and people unfortunate enough to be caught in the radius, transforming those who survived its mutagenic effects into mutated super-humans called Bang Babies.
In a stroke of pure luck, Virgil wasn’t among the 90% of people who became hideously deformed or outright killed by the incident and instead developed superpowers that afforded him a mastery over Electricity and electromagnetism. As a young boy, he couldn’t resist showing off these new powers to his best friend Richie Foley who quickly convinced him that he should use his powers for good and become a superhero like those in the comic books they shared an interest in.
Soon, Virgil had taken on the moniker of Static and began the uphill battle against the others who had gained superpowers in the Big Bang, protecting Dakota city as their very own superhero. He soon learned that it wasn’t an easy job as not only did keeping a secret identity tax his relationship with his family and friends, it put a squeeze on his time and forced him to learn quickly how to balance both his lives. The more Bang Babies he fought, the more he realised that it would take more than just locking people up to solve Dakota’s problems as many of them were misunderstood or acting out due to problems in their lives.
An example of this was when he encountered a villain called Rubber-band Man, who was using his powers to get back at a record company producer that had stolen his music. Virgil persuaded his nemesis that revenge wasn’t the answer and that he should rethink what he could do with his powers. When he was released from prison he began a relationship with Virgil’s sister Sharon and at first he was wary but in the end accepted him as a fellow hero of Dakota City.
Despite the unstable period in the aftermath of the Big Bang, for a while it seemed everything was going right for Virgil. He was a respected superhero, his studies were going well and he was learning to balance his crime fighting and normal life. It was during this time that something amazing happened; he was offered a place in a school work programme where he would study at the prestigious Vanmoor Institute, world renowned for its cutting-edge science labs that were free to use by gifted students who were acclaimed as the ‘future of science’. Virgil was free to use the labs under the instruction and guidance of the teachers, inspiring him to further his interests in the fields of electronics and biology.
Unfortunately, after a series of diabolical schemes enacted by his teachers, Trapper and Specs, Virgil discovered that the institute was owned by billionaire Edwin Alva; a heartless business man and the possible origin of Quantum Juice. The Vanmoor Institute was shut down after suspicions were raised against Alva’s operations, but he was later cleared of all charges despite a multitude of evidence proving his indiscretions. Alva would continue to be the dark hand in the shadows of Virgil’s life.
When his best friend Richie developed enhanced intelligence, further compounding his already impressive inventing ability, he was delighted to have a partner to patrol Dakota city with in the form of Gear, who proved himself to be a worthy superhero in his own right. Now that he had fellow superheroes to rely on in the form of Gear and Rubber-band Man, Virgil could expand his efforts in the fight against crime without worry that his home would be destroyed by rampaging bang babies when he was gone.
Due to his expertise in dealing with Bang Babies and other villain’s interest in these powerful-yet-malleable teenagers, Virgil has found himself assisting heroes from many other walks of life including members of the Justice League and Teen Titans; functioning as a valuable ally and often advising restraint and reformation as options where others have seen simply another enemy to do battle with.
Impressed by his attitude when dealing with the Bang Babies and Virgil’s inherent faith in humanity, he is to this day one of the few superheroes deemed worthy enough by Batman to hold the knowledge of his secret identity; a fact he hasn’t shared with anyone, (including his best friend and partner, the superhero called Gear) out of respect for the hero he admires. Sympathetic to the plight of the Bang Babies after meeting and fighting alongside Virgil, Batman arranged for medical research into their afflictions in his capacity as billionaire Bruce Wayne and Virgil often visited Gotham city with Bang Babies who need help controlling or removing the effects of their mutations as part of an outreach programme run by his father’s community centre.
Three years since his career as a superhero began, Virgil remained a protector of Dakota City and the primary authority when it comes to dealing with Bang Babies. His feeling of responsibility for his fellow metahumans meant that he’d chase them to wherever they choose to cause trouble and his sense of justice meant that he’d always answer the call to assist his fellow heroes in the fight against evil. Between assisting the League, the Titans or anyone else who needs his help and defending his home city, the young superhero often had a lot on his plate.
Until one day, the leader of Young Justice in his world, the current Robin Tim Drake, approached him with a proposition. Tim wanted Virgil to join the ranks of the Young Justice as a senior superhero and put him in charge of gadget development for the team. Virgil was reluctant as first due to his duties at home, but after meeting another member of the team, a green-clad archer girl, Virgil became more enthusiastic about spending time with the team and showing off his skills as an inventor and superhero.
When a dire threat came to the city of Gotham and Young Justice was called in help patrol the streets while the Justice League focused on the main threat, Virgil was among the first to volunteer to protect the playground of the Batman, a chance to prove himself to the hero he admired. (not to mention spend more time around certain green-clad team members)
It was on one such mission that the sudden emergence of a dimensional anomaly swallowed whole a teammate on a routine apprehension of criminals. Driven by his sense of duty and a not-so-secret crush, he dove headlong into the darkness after her; and emerged in a brand-new world.
(This will be expanded in his intro thread)
Weaknesses:
Only Human: Despite his impressive array of powers, Virgil is essentially a normal human being. He is just as vulnerable to injury, illness and disease as anyone else and is only as physically capable as any other boy his age who does moderate exercise.
Personality Flaw – Show Boater: Virgil has a bit of a problem with being cocky when playing the role of his alter-ego Static which can sometimes lead to him not being wary enough of his surroundings when he feels he is winning. To punctuate this as a problem, a close friend of his was once hurt thanks to his showboating and he has been chastised by his best friend Gear for not taking things seriously or giving him credit where it’s due.
Personality Flaw – Hero Worship: Virgil’s rampant admiration for long time members of the Justice League often leads him to do what they say without much argument. This fact has been exploited to lead him into traps and trick him into doing unsavoury things in the name of justice. This admiration also extends to anyone he considers a ‘good role model’ as he often compares himself to others in the hope that he can be as respected as them one day. This idolisation is especially true of black superheroes such as John Stewart, Icon and Black Lightning.
Personality Flaw - Hopelessly Naïve: Virgil’s belief that there is good in everyone has let people fool him more than once despite his genius intelligence. Sly villains have played to this fact in order to manipulate him, knowing that he will always choose what is ‘morally right’ and give people a chance even when it isn’t the best option.
Limited Charge: Virgil doesn’t have an endless well of power to draw upon which means he can only fight at full power for a short time before needing to recharge. He generates his own power over time and can draw electricity from power outlets to refuel but is akin to a battery in that he is useless without a charge.
Vulnerability – Water: Exposure to water when actively using his powers causes Virgil to ‘short-out’, causing him to lose most of his power. Depending on the amount of power he had left, this shock can knock him unconscious but usually only serves to evaporate the water on him and leave him needing to recharge after a brief moment of spasms and pain.
Vulnerability – Bang Babies: Perhaps due to the unique circumstances of their powers origin, Virgil has shown that the powers of Bang Babies are especially effective against him. The greatest example of this is his ability to be hurt by Doctor Byron Kilgore’s electrostatic bolts despite Virgil’s normal immunity to electricity.
Vulnerability – Electromagnetic Instability: Virgil’s power draws upon the energy within himself to interact with ambient electromagnetic fields. This means that should the magnetic fields of the earth (or an area) be compromised in some way, there can be interesting and dangerous sideeffects. The easiest example of this being the effect of solar flares.
During a solar flare, he may find that on one day he exhibits a vast increase in the strength of his powers to the point that they become wild and uncontrollable, whereas the next day he finds himself completely powerless and unable to create so much as a spark with his ability. Conceivably a machine could be created that manipulates magnetic fields and could impact his power, but the precise measurements required mean that a tiny mistake either way could mean unbridled power or none at all, making the construction of such a device dangerous for both Virgil and its creator.
Exploitable Weakness – Insulators: Virgil’s Electrokinesis has proven to be completely ineffective against true insulators, as evidenced by his struggle to defeat his villain-turned-friend Rubberband Man and Replikon when he turned himself into a wooden mannequin. Trapping Virgil in these insulators is a good way to make him useless in a fight.
Exploitable Weakness – Power Drain: While Virgil is able to drain power from outside sources to empower himself, this is also possible in reverse. Anyone with a device or ability capable of draining power can forcibly extract the electricity from his body and temporarily rob him of his powers.
Hatred – Firearms: After the role they played in the death of his mother, Virgil developed a deep-seated loathing for firearms of all kinds; especially the kind of hand guns used by gang bangers. This hatred is so intense that his being handed one at the Big Bang made him leave immediately and throw it into the river. But even worse, when someone he was trying to befriend (over worries that he was depressed after being bullied at school) asked if he wished to see his father’s handgun, he freaked out and immediately cut ties with him. This drastic reaction pushed the boy over the edge as he felt he had been rejected on the eve of making his first friend, the proceeding events leading to Virgil’s best friend Richie getting shot by accident; further reinforcing his hatred of guns.
Fear – Loss: Virgil still suffers after the loss of his mother and is desperate to protect the people he loves from harm. Virgil is willing to sacrifice himself for the safety of his loved ones and will rush headlong into danger to save them unless stopped by someone more level-headed. This also may be the reason for his strong sense of duty and the drive for his being a superhero- so that no one has to suffer the same loss as him.
Other Information:
Virgil is a fan boy of comics, roleplaying games and science fiction. He also has great fondness for music and basketball.
Members of the Justice League have jokingly compared Virgil to the green lantern John Stewart due to similarities in the functionality of their powers, stating that the two of them were interchangeable. When John Stewart had his power battery briefly stolen by Sinestro, Virgil used his powers to charge his ring so it could work again though it was much weaker than normal. This surprising interaction further reinforced the notion of them being similar.
Though he has helped the Teen Titans in the past and maintains contact with them, he has never been considered a full-fledged member of the team.
