ARTEMIS
Name: Artemis Lian Crock
Alias: Artemis
Identity: Secret
Age: 17
Species: Human
Physical Appearance: Artemis is from Asian decent as her mother is Vietnamese and as a result of this she has some distinct Asian tones to her features. She has olive toned skin with dark grey eyes and long blonde hair that reaches past her waist that is usually always pulled back in a pony tail with an elastic. She has an athletic build which she shows off when she wears her costume.
Her costume is a green polo neck, no sleeve tank top with the emblem of an arrow in light green on the front and a pair of green leggings. Black boots reach up to just past her ankles, a black pouch tied to her left leg and a black utility belt is worn around her waist. She also wears long sleeved green fingerless gloves on both hands with a green band around her right upper arm that she uses as a fixed point when she draws her bow. A green mask that covers most of her face is also worn and it stretches around to the back of her head.
Her normal clothes are usually a tight fitting white long sleeved top, black jacket or cardigan and a pair of black flared jeans, or whatever is clean and hung up in her closet for that day.
Personality: Artemis is very passionate and opinionated. She is protective of any secrets she has and can get aggressive and defensive when she gets into an argument. She involves herself readily in confrontations and occasionally prefers to solve problems with force, although she is learning to rein that in because not everything can be solved with an arrow or a punch. She is afraid of being found out as a daughter of villains and will lie to her friends if they ask about them.
Witty and very quick with a comeback, Artemis isn’t afraid to say what she feels and is definitely not afraid to show her dislike of someone. When she was alone with her dad for many years he used psychological manipulation in order to control her and make her stay with him so that she wouldn’t run away like her older sister Jade did. She is afraid of being found out as a daughter of villains and will lie to her friends if they ask about them. Artemis will often use her aggressive and overly confident attitude as a cover for her deeply rooted insecurities.
Artemis is often afraid that one day she might fall from grace and become a villain like her father or her sister. These thoughts can often keep her up at night and make it difficult for her to get a full night's sleep. As a result she has deep identity issues and doubt can easily set in under the right circumstances. These issues can all affect her judgement and cause her to make the wrong decisions.
When her mother was released from prison, Artemis began to brighten up, her mother being a source of reassurance and comfort. This was something that Artemis needed and it was a heart breaking decision for her to leave when she did to become a vigilante. She despises her father and Jade. Her father for the multiple things that he made her do in her short life, and her sister because she was left behind.
To her school friends and those around her, Artemis would seem just as normal as everyone else. She is hardworking and diligent, everything a good student should be.
Once she is comfortable around people she likes, Artemis will open up, but not enough to tell everyone her secret at first. Funny, helpful, caring and protective she is a loyal friend.
Powers: None
Abilities: Artemis was trained by her father from an early age to use various bows as her first choice of weaponry. Because of this she has become a good marksman, able to shoot arrows from a composite bow, longbow, short bow or crossbow. She is also able to shoot up to 3 arrows from her composite bow, which she prefers to use, and hit her targets. She is also adept in using multiple different trick arrows such as explosive arrows, knockout arrows etc.
She also has above average speed, endurance, agility and strength thanks to a vigorous and intensive training regime that her father put her through when she was younger. She is able to demonstrate impressive physical feats such as being able to knock out a fully grown adult man and doing front flips by holding all her weight on one arm.
She is ambidextrous, meaning that she is able to use her bow with either hand whilst maintaining the same level of accuracy. Artemis also has basic acrobatics and is proficient in martial arts being able to take on multiple attackers with relative ease. She also has relatively good tracking skills and some basic first aid skills.
Artemis is also multilingual, able to speak fluent English, Vietnamese and French and does pretty well with Spanish in school. She is also intelligent, even if she prefers to use force to solve problems, and is able to understand complex scientific terms.
Weapons/Equipment: Artemis uses a green composite bow that can fold in on itself so it can be stored away easily but then able to snap right back. This allows her to use it to fire her different arrows that are stored in a green quiver on her back. She can also use her bow to strike opponents if she doesn’t have any time to shoot her arrows.
She uses trick arrows, like Green Arrow and Red Arrow, for different attacks. She would usually have in her quiver at least one, explosive arrow, knock-out gas arrow, grappling hook arrow, adhesive arrow, impact arrow, lasso arrow, smoke screen arrow, fire arrow, net arrow, and tracker arrow.
Artemis also carries a small handheld telescope that she would use to make out targets from a distance to help make her shot count.
History: Artemis is the teenage daughter of the villains Sportsmaster and Huntress. Born and raised in Gotham City, when her mother Paula Crock was thrown in jail following a crime her parents committed, her father Lawrence Crock started to train her from a young age. She was taught to use a bow as her primary weapon in combat and was constantly tested; occasionally pitted against her sister, Jade, in fights.
While her mother was in jail, Jade ran away due to their father’s verbal and emotional abuse. Leaving the family in the middle of the night Jade felt that bringing Artemis along would slow her down. Artemis tried to convince her sister to stay but it didn’t work and she was left alone with their father. This led Artemis to become defensive and despise her sister.
When her mother was released from prison, Paula confronted Artemis’ father saying that she wanted to do right by her and have her lead a good life. Over hearing the conversation, Artemis donned her costume and disappeared into the night to fight crime taking her bow and some arrows with her leaving her family behind.
Spending about a year patrolling the streets of Gotham becoming a vigilante hero Artemis kept herself to herself avoiding, as much as she could, the more noticeable heroes. During her nightly patrols, her technique in taking on the muggers or robbers grew sloppy and she, on more than one occasion, hurt them a lot more than she should have due to her aggressive tendancies. The thing was that those committing robberies tended to get on the girl’s nerves a lot more than the muggers, as they tended to bring up memories of her father and sister. This drew the attention of her mother and she made a request to Batman and Green Arrow to go speak with her daughter and talk some sense into her.
The two heroes tracked down the girl, a feat that was rather simple considering the trail of destruction she was leaving in her wake. They spoke to her, as her mother had requested, trying to convince her off the dark path that she had begin to walk. Artemis wasn’t best pleased at the idea of the pair helping her, becoming defensive and rather aggressive towards the two heroes. She took a few minutes to think about this and not wanting to go down a similar path to her parents, she agreed. Having sympathy for the girl's dark past, Green Arrow took her in under the guise of her 'Uncle'.
Realising that Green Arrow was originally from Star City, Artemis made an agreement to commute between Gotham and Star City. It would be tough for her but she concluded that she didn’t want to leave her mother behind. Ollie agreed to the girl's terms realising that Artemis' relationship with her mother was essential to keeping her on the straight and narrow. As a pre-requirement however, Artemis agreed to refrain from super heroics and focus on her training. Staying with her mother in a small flat in Gotham, Artemis had then been enrolled back to school and it didn’t take the intelligent young girl to catch back up on her studies. However the commute from Gotham to Star City and back was taking its toll on Artemis, but she had gotten into a routine.
For six months now Green Arrow has been training her, hoping to rein in her aggressive tendencies and refine her technique with her bow before allowing her back out into the streets again to fight. The first few weeks Artemis had to gain some control of her insecurities. Ollie was patient with the girl despite her aggressive tendencies and her constant lashing out whenever she failed. Artemis also did not take well to having a mentor at first as her previous traumas training under her father kept rearing their ugly head. Matters were not helped by Ollie's own personality which could be as abrasive and confrontational as her. After a bit however, a fondness grew between them, more out of respect of their abilities than anything else. Eventually Artemis learned that her aggression could be channelled to her concentration on hitting her targets.
Artemis took in as much as she could of what she learned on board. When she was out on the streets of Gotham fighting crime, she occasionally bumped into other young heroes, specifically an electrical based hero. After some persuasion she joined their Young Justice team. Having been on the team for a few months she had developed a number of friendships and had been on a number of missions. Although being a team player was something that she found difficult.
It was on one of these many missions that dropped her into her current dilemma. As she had been racing down a corridor in a warehouse after a few villains before they could report that there was a breach, a communicator in her pocket buzzed with static as a voice spoke over it letting her know how things were going on their end. But she didn’t have any real time to reply.
As she continued to run, her eyes focused on the men in front of her, except it wasn’t the men she should’ve been focused on. The floor began to fall away into a black void behind her and seemed to be racing and gaining on her as she ran. The entire corridor twisted and fell away as well as it reached the feet of the running vigilante. A black void engulfed the corridor in front of her and as Artemis’ right foot moved down to make contact with the floor that was no longer there, she let out a scream as she fell forward.
And she disappeared getting swallowed by the blackness.
(This will be expanded on in her intro thread)
Weaknesses:
Her Family: If she has to tackle one of them when they are caught in the midst of an illegal act there is a chance that she will mess up, simply because she is fighting family and she'd be less willing to hurt them, even if it is her father.
Her Dark Secret: Artemis has a fear of her deep dark secret. She is deftly afraid that if the friends that she has made find out about her parents they will dislike her for it. It is this fear that makes her closed off and dishonest about things. It is also a strong motivator and she has once let a villain get away due to the threat of the exposure.
Aggression: Artemis’ short temper means that people can get under her skin easily. It’s her defence mechanism against tough questions for her, like her family, and she is working on opening up more....slowly.
Only Human: She might be capable of incredible physical feats, but as Artemis is human she can only take certain amounts of physical and mental damage.
