DOCTOR DESTINY
Real Name: John Dee
Alias: Doctor Destiny
Identity: Public (though mostly forgotten)
Age: 35
Species: Human
Physical Appearance: There was a time when John Dee was the epitome of human health. Handsome face, chiseled features, and hair to match. But, once his ability to dream was ripped away from him, Dee's skin began to gnarl and rot. His hair withered, and his genitalia turned to dust. His face has long since shriveled up into a dry, almost corpse like bit of quaggy looking flesh. His eyes are bulbous and bloodshot, and the skin skin around them has receded and dwindled. All that remains of Destiny's hair are a few strands that float about as if he were medusa. His body is simply a scrawny outline of bones, with a line of dead flesh outlining it. He often wears little, if anything. His costume is just a blue cloak with a hood. Otherwise he'll simply wear whatever he can scrounge up.
Personality: Destiny's mind is warped, and his personality is eccentric at best. His motivations fluctuates on a nearly hourly basis, and he could be described as outright indecisive. When his main concern isn't the Justice League, Destiny either wants to rule the world, or destroy it, often unsure as to which he well and truly desires. Before his insanity, Destiny hadn't the grand ambitions he holds now. Originally, Dee was a scholarly and quiet type, with an idolization of those in the Justice League. Now he is fueled by hate and rage, losing the ability to dream damaged his psyche and warped his mind. He now hates the world and views himself as a god above all others, intent on cleansing the world of all pain and misery by ascending to godhood. Destiny's hatred is directed particularly at the Justice League, whom he believes stole his dreams, his life, and his mother. Underneath the chalky withered exterior of Destiny (though rarely seen), is a softer man embittered by circumstance, with a tender love of his mother and almost genuine intentions of good.
Powers:
•Dream Manipulation: Destiny's precious Materioptikon grants him the ability to manipulate the very fabric of dreams, how others dream, and create and manipulate dreamworlds and dream realities. Destiny can use the stone to make both dreams and nightmares into tangible matter that often turn on those who dreamt them up.
Abilities:
•Genius Level Intellect: Destiny is a scientist, he does in fact have a doctorate and is an expert inventor. His most prominent feats were his anti gravity device, and tampering with the dreamstone
•Occult Knowledge: Destiny's knowledge of the occult may not be as vast as Constantine's, but Dee's scholarly insight in dreaming is practically unrivaled. His tampering of the mystic dreamstone is a feat in of itself.
Weapons/Equipment:
•Materioptikon
•Blue Cloak
History: Born to his beloved mother, Ethel Cripps, much of John Dee's childhood and teenage years are shrouded in mystery. As a young adult however, Dee worked as a low level employee for Lexcorp and became madly infatuated with the Justice League. Fatigued with simply drifting aimlessly with no rhyme nor reason, no purpose for existence he deemed it his Destiny to become a member of the League. When he told his mother of his plans she was outraged. She left him, stripped him of his family name, and gave only one ominous warning that he'd become nothing more than a petty criminal. Undeterred, even by his mother's perceived betrayal, he went on with his scheme. In place of his name, Dee took the moniker of Destiny, Doctor Destiny, this path and this path alone would be his sole destiny and he was determined to see it through. He kidnaped the Green Lantern through a device of his own creation, an anti-gravity machine. He then infiltrated the League, under the guise of Green Lantern and took his place. He was unmasked by the League not long after. They casted him aside like old garbage, and tossed him in prison for his transgressions.
Incarcerated in prison, Destiny was miserable. He was disregarded as a low-life petty criminal scientist, and a failed supervillain. Taking pity upon her loving son, Cripps gifted Destiny his dreamstone. He used the stone to escape prison, tampering with it until only he could control its powers. Seeking revenge on what was once his idolized heroes, Destiny used his stone to trap the Justice League in a nightmare world, run by a tyrannical fascist Justice League group. The league defeated both the doubles and Destiny, sending him off once again.
Instead of prison, this time the League sent Destiny to Arkham Asylum. The League ordered the Arkham doctors to remove Dee's ability to dream, in vain hopes of neutralizing his abilities. The inability to dream or even sleep drove Destiny insane, the mental torture and anguish from sleep deprivation was traumatic. Dee's hatred for the League only festered as he sat in Arkham, alone and forgotten. His mental state deteriorating, and his skin now shriveling up and dying. The inability to dream withered Dee into a shriveled corpse of a man, wailing insane pleas and howls in the halls of Arkham. After years of avoiding her son, Cripps decided to visit her beloved son. Yet, the abhorrent sight was too much for her to bare. Unable to cope with the pitiful wretch that had once been her beautiful and creative son, Ethel Cripps committed suicide. She left only a protective amulet, which Destiny used to escape Arkham. He hunted down his stone and retrieved his previous ruby once more. After clasping the ruby, a flash of light flickered, and Destiny found himself in a new world, lost and confused, Destiny wandered aimlessly, stone in hand, until he found an old village where he currently stays.
Weaknesses:
•Physical Frailty: Due to Destiny's inability to dream, his skin has withered and dried and his bones have become brittle. Without the empowerment of his Materioptikon, Destiny is left in a wheelchair bound state and in Arkham usually requires the aide of another inmate or nurse to wheel him around.
•Criminal Insanity: Destiny's inability to dream had fractured his mind and driven him insane. He has a warped view of reality, and sleep deprivation often causes uncontrollable hallucinations.
•Withered Appearance: Let's be honest, I'm Destiny's current state, his appearance does him no favors. His corpse like skin and texture is downright ugly and repulsive and adds very little to charisma
•Reliance on the Stone: Without his dreamstone, Destiny is less then worthless in a fight. All of his power stems from the stone's abilities, without it he is simple a frail husk of a man. That being said, it could be incredibly easy to defeat the dream lord should he lose his stone
•Sleeping Beauties: Destiny's abilities derive from dreaming which requires sleep. He can only invade minds once they've fallen into slumber, and can only animate dreams of those currently asleep.
Other Information:
•Dee is for Destiny: Destiny has an odd infatuation with his last name, Dee. This most likely stems from an inability to use it for years on end and an odd means to express grief over his mother's death.
•My Precious: Destiny's Materioptikon may have originally been Dream's; however due to Dee's tampering with the stone and its arcane circuitry, Dee has effectively disabled anyone other than himself from using it
