Name: Father McCormick
Occupation: Priest
Relation to Character: A local priest who takes Eddie’s confessions and tries to steer Venom towards a righteous path…usually with mixed results.
Description: A lean, balding, elderly man, Father Carl McCormick looks like a kindly grandpa. He is typically seen wearing his clerical collar and wire rim glasses that constantly slip down his nose.
He is a kind, gentle soul who is always willing to help out those in need and who keeps the church doors open at all times. Having seen his parish and the community suffer due to drugs, gang violence, and more he finds himself at odds when dealing with Eddie, abhorring the violence and death that follows Venom, but appreciating the results. He has made it his personal mission to try and save Brock’s soul even if it means saving him from himself.
Short History: Father McCormick and Eddie Brock first crossed paths when Venom stopped a vehicle from fleeing the scene of the church charity function the gang members within had shot up. He witnessed Venom punish the criminals in his usual manner only to have Brock show up for confession later that evening. Realizing the monster he saw and the man in the confessional were one and the same McCormick tried to convince Eddie to reject the symbiote, but was secretly torn upon learning the gang members had killed members of his congregation and had ties to child trafficking rings. Since that fateful night, Brock/Venom comes for confession once a week and despite his reservations about him and his alien suit, McCormick still listens as he realizes that Eddies belief in God is the one thing keeping him from going completely insane. He also worries over the fact that he agrees on some level with Venom’s actions.
